Enjoyed it, a light listen!
I enjoyed this book as a light listen but I thought the overall storyline and the ending wasn’t very captivating.

Excellent narration of a very enjoyable book
I am a great fan of both Jane Austen and the regency period and this part biographical novel manages to combine an excellent story with historical facts in a most satisfactory way. The tole of single women in those times, dependant on men or at a last resort on themselves for financial support is vividly displayed. The alternative was marriage and the possibility of numerous children and possible early death as a result. The heroine here navigates a course as a single woman with some success and some setbacks all of it making an excellent listen which I will probably return to in the future.
The narrator here is excellent and I will look for other books read by her, the great test of a good narrator.

Slow
A perfectly fine narrator but the story was very slow and I lost interest at several points. I did persevere until the end but even the ending wasn’t particularly pleasing.

A masterpiece.
Thoroughly enjoyable, informative and engaging. A masterpiece to transport the reader into the very heart of the action and interaction between the characters. I loved this book and congratulate the author.

Lovely.
Really enjoyable, very much in the tradition of Jane Austen. Beautifully read by Bessie Carter, who brought it to life. And beautifully written by the author. The audible version kept me entertained while doing some very tedious DIY, and I thank them both.

Interesting and enjoyable background on the Austen family & friends.
Imaginatively thought out that it was so convincing. A really good read. Wonderful to have used so constructively the Austen resources available to the author. Thoroughly recommend.

An must read.

Not worth the time
Absolute rubbish x x I couldn’t listen any more x was expecting so much more, voices of an adult pretending to be child just so wrong x was hyped as the next Gosford Park not even close xx sorry

I’m afraid I really didn’t like it
I loved the idea of this book and I’m a big Jane Austen fan so it sounded like a lovely book to escape the dark nights with. I am not sure if it is one of those instances when audio destroys a good book or whether I would have disliked the written version too but the whole narration sounded like either a spoilt child (Fanny) or someone making a joke of higher society. I gave it 15 chapters thinking the story might improve and as such I could cope with the narrator but sadly no. I can’t remember the last time I have abandoned a book (let alone an audio one - which is easy to have on in the house and the car) but I am abandoning this one. Very disappointed that I have wasted one of my credits on it.
