Summary
'Fantasy as it ought to be written' GEORGE R.R. MARTIN
Tom Badgerlock has been living peaceably in the manor house at Withywoods with his beloved wife Molly these many years, the estate a reward to his family for loyal service to the crown.
But behind the facade of respectable middle-age lies a turbulent and violent past. For Tom Badgerlock is actually FitzChivalry Farseer, bastard scion of the Farseer line, convicted user of Beast-magic, and assassin. A man who has risked much for his king and lost more…
On a shelf in his den sits a triptych carved in memory stone of a man, a wolf and a fool. Once, these three were inseparable friends: Fitz, Nighteyes and the Fool. But one is long dead, and one long-missing.
Then one Winterfest night a messenger arrives to seek out Fitz, but mysteriously disappears, leaving nothing but a blood-trail. What was the message? Who was the sender? And what has happened to the messenger?
Suddenly Fitz's violent old life erupts into the peace of his new world, and nothing and no one is safe.

very good book, not a lot of action but worth read
definitely worth reading the book. Robin Gibb is a great story teller, I am definitely looking forward to other books.

Another brilliant chapter in the 6 dutchies saga
Robin Hobb is one of my favourite authors; her writing style brilliantly balances lavishly detailed description with compelling storyline to produce a totally believable world. I have previously read the Farseer trilogy and the Tawney man trilogy, and began reading this book on holiday a couple if years ago. Unable to commit to finishing my written copy, the audiobook worked great at allowing me to fitit into my lifestyle. The narrators were both interesting and engaging to listen to, with a diverse range of voices and accents employed in their telling of the story. I never fail to be surprised and intrigued by these books, which truly stand out as something unique in the fantasy genre, and I highly recommend them and look forward to reading / listening to the next addition in the saga.

Another fantastic story of Fitz by Robin Hobb.
Again a masterpiece of writing in the on going story of FitzChivalry. Times of great triumph and a death as heartbreaking as that of NightEyes.

Liked the 2 narrators
Despite some reviews disliking the narrating I actually really liked them. It always takes me a little time to get used to a new narrator but once I did I couldn't imagine Fitz sounding any different. Also like that there are 2 narrators which is different to previous books.

Great story
I’m mystified why people think the narrators are bad. I played it at x1.1 and thought they played their parts well. Interesting story too!

Bad narrator.
Quality of the narrator compared to previous Fitz books is really disappointing me. I wish they would use one of the previous narrators.
