Fifty Classic Ghost Stories
Dreadfully read, with weird inappropriate intonation. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone and can't bear to listen to anymore. Hugely disappointing.

Wish I Had Read Previous Reviews
Would you try another book written by the authors or narrated by Cathy Dobson?
Absolutely not narrated by Cathy Dobson
What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Who would complain about EF Benson et al. The authors are iconic ghost story writers. It was purely the choice of the narrator.
What didn’t you like about Cathy Dobson’s performance?
Everything! Boring voice. Even 1 story narrated by her was too much, but there are hours of listening. Just couldn't stand it.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Stories are all classic, but the narrator did not have any redeeming qualities and being narrated by a computer generated voice would even have been better.

Dreadful robotic intonations
I couldn’t stand more than 10 minutes. Hideously read. I was really looking forward to some good ghost stories, the only scary thing was the narration. 😩😩😩

I struggled to make it past the second story
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I'd recommend the book but not this audiobook
What other book might you compare Fifty Classic Ghost Stories to, and why?
any other "classic ghost story" books
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Cathy Dobson?
A mix of male and female readers. Generally someone who can actually read properly
Did Fifty Classic Ghost Stories inspire you to do anything?
get the book out of the library and read it myself
Any additional comments?
This is ruined by the narrator. My own fault as I should have played a sample. The reader has strange inflections which are very very irritating. I honestly haven't heard someone, presumably professional, read a book so poorly. I couldn't listen to it after a while. I kept hoping it would get better but didn't. A shame as i know some of the stories but couldnt get past the second story.

This is unlistenable!!!
I am absolutely furious to have spent a full credit on something like this. Cathy Dobson has single handily ruined an entire collection of amazing stories with her weird and at times utterly ridiculous reading style!
I want my money back or I am canceling my subscription!

Classic stories, badly presented
Reading stories more than, say, 100 years old, requires a good deal of skill and can bring difficult literature to life. Sadly this reader seems to have honed her skills on a decade or two of UK local radio commercials, and perhaps some Christmas panto in her local village hall. Combine this with a refreshingly relaxed approach to pronouncing 'difficult' words, and we have an audio experience that is not quite what I was hoping for. Harsh, maybe, but people on Libravox do this better for love, not for money.

Classic stories ruined by odd narration
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, the narrator
What didn’t you like about Cathy Dobson’s performance?
Very odd inflection, inappropriate emphasis and narration completely unsympathetic to the stories, has the odd and luckily rare effect of making them hard to listen to. Don't waste a credit.
Any additional comments?
Buyer beware.
