Summary
Legendary story teller Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for their world or ours.
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was 10, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when Charlie is 17, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.
Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world.
King's storytelling in Fairy Tale soars. This is a magnificent and terrifying tale about another world than ours, in which good is pitted against overwhelming evil, and a heroic boy—and his dog—must lead the battle.

wonder full
Loved this adult (?) fairy tale. It's been a while since magic, goodness & evil, feisty people & talking animals, nasty critters have passed my way. I'm pleased I can still appreciate those uplifting tales of 'derring-do', princes & princesses, monsters & large insects! Was VERY caught up in the journey.

Meh
I expected more I think - it wasn't bad and I saw it through but I was relieved when it ended - I thought the whole thing was a bit weird and disjointed when it had potential to be great - see what you think

Great story but would prefer to read
It’s the sort of premise that I always enjoy but after a few hours I am a bit sick of the American teem voice (both style and narration, although the narrator is very good, most US accents jar with me after a while) and fairly slow development of the story. I will read instead and take in at a faster pace.

LOVED THIS!
Great story, although it was long, it never felt sprawling and I didn't want it to end. The narrator is a gift, didn't put a foot wrong and I enjoyed listening to him so much that I searched books by narrator afterwards - something I've not done before. This is now one of my favourite SK books (and that's saying something). Shame not all SK narrators are this good.

Best Stephen King book
I absolutely loved this book. I could not stop listening. It was full of other world, wonder, amazement not to mention scares and thrills along the way! The characters were fabulous and I’m gutted it’s finished! I want more…
