Summary

Eversion is a superb original gothic SF novel. A small group of intrepid explorers are in search of a remote and mysterious artefact. It's a well-funded expedition, well organised, which is lucky as they're sailing north of Bergen on the schooner Demeter, searching for a narrow inlet which will lead them to a vast uncharted lake—and their goal—

Until disaster strikes.

Doctor Silas Coade wakes from disturbing dreams, on the steamship Demeter, in pursuit of an extraordinary find almost too incredible and too strange to believe, secreted within a lagoon in the icy inlets of Patagonia. But as they come in sight of their prize, he and the crew see they are not the first to come so far: there is a wreck ahead, and whatever ruined it may threaten them as well.

Shaking off his nightmares, Doctor Silas Coade joins his fellow exploders on the deck of the zeppelin Demeter and realises something has already gone dangerously wrong with their mission. If any of them are to survive, then he will have to take the exploration—and their lives—into his own hands....

Enjoyable

Great story beautifully told by the narrator. I enjoyed not knowing what was happening and it gradually becoming clearer.

Entertaining story, impeccable narration

Really loved this book, getting to know the vivid characters on the voyage, brought to life so well by perhaps the best narrator I've heard in 5 years as an Audible member. Highly recommended.

A minor Reynolds, but a first class narration.

This story begins as a historical romance and unfolds to be something altogether different. It's better when it's the romance and we still have the mystery, as if unfolds the tension dwindles and the mystery lacks appeal. All the same it's short enough and inventive enough to be well worth a listen. This is particularly so, as the narration is outstanding, bringing characters to life and adding interest where little seems too be.

Great book, beautifully narrated

I loved this book sooo much. I've read all of Alastair Reynolds books and this one charmed me the most; always interesting and entertaining, very authentic, and at times quite moving.
And Harry Myers' narration was perfect - fully committed to each character, bringing them to life more than any other narrator I've heard. Loved loved loved it.

Very enjoyable

Reynolds weaves an interesting tale of explorers in different eras. He did so well I was slightly disappointed by the science fiction resolution of the book.
In the end a lot is unanswered and maybe the story would’ve been better served staying in the past.

But I enjoyed the book nonetheless.

Interesting but..

I liked the premise of the story, but it was very repetitive going over the same story arch several times in a slightly different way.

Drawn out and repetitive.

The same story rehashed multiple times with an over dramatic and slightly pathetic antogonist. I got very bored towards the end and just wanted it to finish, which it did but in an entirely predictable manner.
If I hadn't just cancelled my audible membership I'd ask for a refund.

Really enjoyed this one!

Very different from anything I was expecting, but really enjoyable. The changes in the story can throw you a little, but stick with. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic!

I loved this book. Intriguing, exciting, spine-tingling and full of humanity. And a very clever twist that I didn't see coming! I was in tears near the end but it ended on a warm uplifting note. Fantastic! The narration was perfect and I could picture all the characters! Thank you Alistair Reynolds and Audible.
