Summary
This Original multicast drama piece blends history with fiction to tell the story of Jonah, a young apprentice from London who raises himself from poverty by wit and luck to become one of the most powerful merchants of the age.
A true rags-to-riches tale, Jonah's journey spans the breadth of human experience, from the intricacies of Edward III's political intrigues to the cutthroat world of international trade, from the triumphs of war to the agonies of personal loss - love, friendship, joy, heartbreak and glory. Set largely in London - the Scarlet City - the centre of medieval England, this is a thrilling portrait of the age and the people who made it so rich, colourful and extraordinary.
London 1348: a brutal time of backstabbing and lethal politics, a world that Jonah Durham is now firmly a part of. Jonah's growing family establishes an export monopoly on cloth, and the honour is bestowed on him to run the office of Alderman. Suddenly an unknown disease breaks out: The Plague manifests in every family and every household. A fierce battle against the disease begins and changes the course of Jonah's life forever.
Told in three parts, hear Medieval London come to life in this historical epic, Audible Original's most ambitious production to date. Narrated by Miriam Margolyes, OBE (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Romeo + Juliet, Mulan) and starring Douglas Booth (Riot Club, Loving Vincent, Shelley) as Jonah and Samuel West (BAFTA nominated; Mr Selfridge, Howards End) as Willcox.
Also featuring: Daniel Anthony, Josephine Arden, Gareth Armstrong, Clare Buckfield, Elliot Chapman, Trevor Cooper, Oliver Coopersmith, Clare Corbett, Raymond Coulthard, Gareth David-Lloyd, Barnaby Edwards, Andrew French, Raj Ghatak, Gerran Howell, James Joyce, Joe Jameson, Mack Keith-Roach, Barry McCarthy, Olly McCauley, George Naylor, Matty Norgren, Steven Pacey, Nicholas Pegg, Siobhán Redmond, Ryan Sampson, David Schofield, Rose Shalloo, Tony Millan, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Lizzie Waterworth-Santo, Samuel West, Finty Williams, Alexander Vlahos.

Superb audible entertainment
I have listened to all 3 instalments of Scarlet City.
Dramas performed excellently by a British cast.
I am so hoping that there will be a 4th instalment?
Missing Miriam Margoyles narration and the cast already.
An absolute must listen!

Great portrayal of the 14th century England!
Great portrayal of the 14th century England! The end was somewhat abrupt and could have been exploited better.

Brilliant but seemed very short
I have loved the beautiful rich story that this series has told, and have been waiting for this 3rd instalment with baited breath.
The characters are brought to life by the narrators, and as with the previous 2 books I was lost in the sounds of 14th century.
The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars overall was the length of this instalment, and the way it just seemed to leave me hanging as if there should have been more.
