Summary

Former detective superintendent Bob Hoon has had one hell of a year.

After being repeatedly beaten, shot at, blown-up, and tortured, Hoon is looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas drinking heavily in front of the TV, while pointedly ignoring the older sister who has invaded his home.

The world, however, has other plans.

When a routine trip to an Inverness shopping center is interrupted by a squad of heavily armed Santas, Hoon, his sister, and an old army colleague find themselves trapped alongside several hundred terrified hostages.

With so much potential for bloodshed, the police gathering outside the center can only wait, watch, and try to negotiate with the terrorists within.

But patience has never been Hoon’s strong point.

And so, if he and everyone else in the center are going to make it home for Christmas, Hoon is left with only one choice.

He’s going to Die Hard the **** out of this thing.

Eastgate is the fourth explosive novel in the Robert Hoon Thrillers series by best-selling author JD Kirk and is perfect for fans of Lee Child, Robert Ludlum, and angry, middle-aged Scottish men doing implausible things.

Die Hoon with a Vengeance!

I love Bob Hoon and this was the most enjoyable yet!
If you haven’t met Hoon yet, do yourself a favour and get the previous two books.
I loved them so much I went back and got all the DCI Logan books too. The universe that JD Kirk has created with all these wonderful characters is my favourite place to unwind on my long walks. Not forgetting Angus’ fantastic narration to bring them all to life.
I look forward to further adventures.

Just great!!

I have listened to a lot of audio detective novels, but for me the author & narrator go together as one to produce a exciting and hilarious novel.
This is the second book in this series I have listened to, and I highly recommend it.
Warning, if bad language offend you perhaps this is not for you.

Absolutely brilliant

what a fantastic spin off series, would love to hear more Jack Logan books as well as these brilliant Bob Hoon books, I think I'm addicted and that's coming from an English woman 😉

The best Hoon ever!!

Every time I think these books can’t get any better JD proves me wrong. This was absolutely brilliant, think Die Hard with lots of foul language and Hoonerisms that made me laugh out loud (I got some funny looks while listening at work!). As an added bonus we also got a lot of DCI Logan and the team which is always a joy. I really tried to make this last but I just couldn't switch it off and had it finished in a day!

Angus's narration is amazing as always. I really really hope JD gives us more Hoon!

I am now waiting impatiently for the next DCI Logan....is it February yet???

Pure genius.

Brilliant characters, superb plot, hilarious and full of suspense by turns, my only wish is that this had been longer.
Fantastic narration as always too. 10 out of 5!

Death and carnage at Christmas

Its impossible not to make the Die Hard connection, but Bruce Willis is no Hoon.

Most of the book is centred on the shopping mall Eastgate, which is a real place and I cant quite get my head around how any Father Christmas will want to be employed there ever again.

Hoon, Bertha and Iris spend the day bringing mayhem and murder to your every day shopping centre full of Christmas shoppers. With Hoon and Bertha competing for the foulest potty mouth of the day through to Iris's false eye wandering off in all directions they take near impossible life and death situations and turn them into classic comedy. I laughed continually at Hoon's constant surprise at his shock at the different way people can die,

What I really love about Hoon books is you get the sense you are there with him, just out of harms way but close enough to feel the tension of every decision he takes. Long may he reign (sic) havoc and justice!

Laughing out loud in public

Great balance between suspense and humour. Even with the vulgarity which for this character and family are just right. Brilliant!! I want more.

Die Hard meets Taggart

Love this story line and the humour behind it. Found myself giggling away throughout. The performance of the narrator is fantastic and really makes you visualise the situation / scenarios.
I somehow managed to jump in at book 3 so need to go back and listen to 1 & 2 now as there are background storylines that link the series together. That said, you could just listen to this without the background knowledge and still enjoy it.
