Summary

From the bestselling author of Checking Out and Dry Hard comes a hilarious story about losing the love of your life, and finding yourself in the aftermath.

When Ollie Sweet is very publicly dumped by ‘The One’, his seemingly perfect world dissolves into misery, self-pity, and a bizarre rooftop meeting with a suicidal man in flip-flops. While most would seek out the support of loved ones at such a torrid time, natural-born journalist Ollie asks the subscribers of his website: how did they get over their failed relationships?

When Ollie follows some of their more extreme advice, chaos inevitably ensues, including accidentally exposing himself to some unsuspecting wildlife, jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane, and suffering from an extremely painful bottom, courtesy of a maniacal Scotsman.

Of course, all of this goes down a storm with his online following, and Ollie soon finds himself the centre of everyone’s attention - whether he likes it or not!

With his eclectic collection of supporters to guide him, can Ollie mend his broken heart, heal his broken bottom, and learn to find happiness again?

Unmissable

One of the most moving books I've ever read.. perfectly brutally honestly relatable. Ollie felt like my personal therapist who I laughed and cried with (literally). Thank you for this coming of age masterpiece where I learnt alot about myself.

A bit predictable but ok

Story was a bit predictable and I didn’t really get to love the lead character.

Generally an easy listen though and seeing it through to the end wasn’t a struggle. 😀

hilarious book, great narration

Great book but don't read if you've just had a breakup you'll cry at your own loneliness ahaha, love this author and narration was great, his accents were on point and his expression of the story was fantastic 10/10 would recommend

Very funny

Nick’s books never fail to make me laugh and lift my mood. Some parts of the book (and there were quite a few) made me laugh so hard I had to stop the audio, take deep breaths and compose myself (yeah everything hurt from laughing so hard).

couldn't put it down

I was so gripped by this book i found it hard to put it down. I couldn't wait to hear wait to hear what antics Mr Sweet was going to be doing next. Slightly predictable ending but enjoyable all the same.

Okay, Actually

💛 A review of two halves here. Overall, enjoyed this very much. A good ol’ ex-relationships retrospective complete with lighthearted humour. What’s not to love, actually.

💚 The comedy elements were hit and miss. I’m a Spalding fan, but some of the humour was a bit too cringy. I can only say tent.

SOUNDBITE

🎧 According to my very unscientific Audible search, Steve West has tended towards narrating more dramatic audiobooks to date. Having heard him do humour, I hope he continues to bring the funny. He was great as Ollie, did well with accents (not easy pulling off an Aussie elephant) and was generally good fun to listen to.

SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO…

There were, I believe, a shout out or two to Nick Hornby in this. I was also reminded of a little 2009 Matthew McConaughey vehicle by the name of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. And I am probably the only person who remembers it so....

Great story, poor ending

this was a great comedy story. I have since been a fan of Nick Spalding from reading the "Love ..." series. However I found this book a great read but I was dissapointed with the ending considering the main character is supposed to be love sick and care free and the girl who he was waiting for had been there since the beginning.
