What Perfect Timing
What Perfect Timing
The title of this book caught my eye because I had never heard of Dialectic Behavior Therapy. But I really appreciated the timing of what I heard.
For example, I learned about "Distress Tolerance" which is my ability to tolerate and respond to sustained and chronic negative stress. The author mentions that this type of stress (as opposed to healthy physical stress from exercise) can affect my immunological response. (I am just getting over cancer, so learning about this helps me return to the safety of only managing the things in my control).
While I have sorted through many things from my past, there is always more to unpack. This book is well-researched, highly-detailed, and super helpful for anyone willing to do the work. Easy to recommend.

Absolutely Fascinating deep dive.
7 and a half hours of a great deal of evidence based research, deep diving into DBT and it's effectiveness. The first chapter is a brilliant scene setter for those new to the subject of DBT bringing you up to speed with what it is, some evidence behind it and it's wide variety of use cases. As someone who has experienced mental health difficulties in the past I can certainly say that this book and its content does feel relevant to my personal situation as I'm sure it will for many many others. When the book moved onto the techniques used in DBT this was a comprehensive deep-dive that covered in detail everything you could possibly want to know. Being over 7 hours this is obviously one that you can do in chunks but it will certainly be worth it I can promise you of that.

Great book and learning tool for DBT
I have several friends that have may have borderline, the fight with constant internal struggles of self worth, destroying their relationships, not feeling safe, and many other things that keep them from enjoying their life to the fullest. Even if they have everything going in the right direction they feel like the "next shoe will drop at anytime", and they have to be prepared by self sabotage. I'm not a Dr. but this is how my friend have explained how they feel. DBT seems to be the only way to help people suffering from these types of feelings and this book is well written with great examples and references.

Bringing therapy back into our own hands
I had heard of DBT but was not sure what all it included and someone recommended it to me as my daughter suffers from anxiety and negative thoughts. Immediately I was drawn in and hooked at how detailed this book was and how helpful it could be for us. Learning to apply the DEAR MAN technique has been improving the communication skills, making interactions more effective and less stressful because we are learning to remove the confusion. These skills can be applied universally which was great to learn. I wanted my daughter to start to learn skills that no matter where she was at, she could apply these techniques to help her through whatever troubling period she may have been having. So far, so good. She has started to listen to different parts of the book again to make sure she really understands how to apply the techniques appropriately.

This DBT audiobook changed my life
I was recommended DBT by a friend, so I decided to start with an audiobook instead of an expensive specialized therapist. At 7.5 hours, this is the most comprehensive guide on DBT I've ever listened to. It goes further in-depth than any online article I've seen yet. One big thing I learned from this audiobook is practicing self-care, specifically exercise, as a means to regulate emotions.
The narration was smooth and easily understandable. The content was never too technical. This is THE DBT audiobook to listen to.
