About this listen

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Meagan Brandy comes an all-new stand-alone romance set in college about a hotshot pitcher and the girl he never saw coming.

You know how in college there’s that one guy everyone wants to be?

That’s me.

I’m the top dog.

The number one.

The big man on campus.

Some say those things are solid wins.

My new tutor would disagree.

My title means nothing to her.

My status lost on her.

And now my mind? That sucker is stuck on her.

She was told to make our sessions priority over all, to drop everything when I need her, and come to me. She does.

But I don’t want to steal her time anymore.

I want to earn it.

If anyone can do that, it’s me.

I’m Tobias Cruz, the king of the curveball. I don’t lose.

Not the game, and surely not the girl.

Little did I know, this girl has herself a secret…and it’s the dirtiest curve yet.

This one is about the journey rather than the destination

This was a good story spoilt, like many have said by the ending!

To get the ending out of the way (with mild spoilers)

This was signposted to go one of two ways, the obvious, and the not quite so obvious (but slightly icky) route. Ms Brandy chose the less obvious route which was OK but I wish she’d found a third option to make it more interesting. Add to that the fact that I cannot believe he didn’t remember given the tone and content of their discussion, I mean how many times would a college student… erm ….with a woman who was, well….I’ll leave it there. This stretched it a bit for me.

So the destination not great. The journey however was great. Tobias starts off seemingly as an alphahole, spoilt jock, gets everything he wants, but I think it was actually more of a commentary on those he chose to surround himself with, and why he did that rather than him being a total #*£*@. He soon becomes a better human as he gets to know Meyer. She’s strong, independent, a great mother (not a spoiler as we get to know this very early on), but a little naive at times, and with a bit of proper advice she could have made her situation so much better - but she did do something and take control in the end. The epilogue was lovely.

The performances were great, although as per I had to listen at 1.2 speed, but this is nothing new.

Enjoy the journey and maybe not worry so much about the conclusion.

Only listened to half of it because the narrator for Meyer was painful to put up with

The male narrater was okay but every time Mayer or the female news chapters came on I couldn’t stand it. In the end I had to stop, it was as if she was given the instructions “sound frustrated but have a sense of longing” and just did it the whole time. Even with sentences that do not need it at all. I probably would have finished it if she’s read it naturally.
