Summary
No one in Lochdubh expects Dorothy to stay for long....
She is, after all, entirely unsuitable. She's an uptown girl, used to a fancy lifestyle in the big city of Glasgow. She'll never fit in. And how is that work-shy rogue Hamish Macbeth supposed to get anything done when his new assistant is such a distraction? The village needs a police sergeant who can get on with his job, not one who's constantly swooning over his pretty young constable.
Yet PC Dorothy McIver quickly shows how determined she is to win over the locals, and she certainly seems to bring out the best in Macbeth. Then comes a brutal murder, and the pair find themselves plunged into a tangled web of conspiracy that acquires a sinister strand when the chilling shadow of Glasgow's underworld creeps to the Highlands and the peaceful village of Lochdubh.

This novel,I am presuming the last,as sadly MC Beaton,has passed away,
was absolutely fabulous.
I enjoyed every minute.
I have listened to every single novel,they are all superbly written with such a great sense of humour & one liners along the way..
Gosh I am sad I have come to the end of them all now.
Highly highly recommended you won’t be disappointed. ⭐️

Like MC Beaton had fully written herself
I have to say that I was dubious about the continuation of Hamish books after the loss of our beloved MC Beaton and whilst there is a difference, I still throughly enjoyed listening to this book, the only difference I picked up abs cringed on was when Angus McDonald “the see’r” was continually referred to as McDonald, this just wasn’t right for me, as he’d only ever been referred to as Angus, the see’r, auld fraud or various other insults in the past.
Sort this and it would be 5 stars all round

Thoroughly enjoyed this
A great new story. Once again, brought to life brilliantly by David Monteath.
I have always loved the Hamish stories, and this one was every bit as good ad all of the previousbooks.
R W Green has done an excellent job of continuing M C Beaton's legacy.
Should there be more books to follow, I wouldn't hesitate to buy and listen to them. Really hope that this isn't the last visit to Loch Dubh!

Really good story but
This was a really good story but the some of the main character voices were all wrong, I didn’t recognise Hamishs’ voice until chapter 8 and chief inspector Daveat, was completely wrong which ruined it, he turned into some posh English bloke, such a shame

Great
This is a cozy mystery story set in Scotland, with Hamish MacBeth and his new police assistant Dorothy.
I really enjoyed this book, especially exploring Hamish's personal life, and his cat and dog, as well as his police work. Has Hamish finally found the love he has been seeking?
I look forward to reading the next book in the series, as I have read a lot of these wonderful books, and they have all been so interesting and enjoyable. I am a big MC Beaton fan.
I highly recommend this book, as well as all the other books in the series!

Crime mystery

What has happened to Hamish’s voice
I have listened to all of the Hamish Macbeth books that have been narrated by David Monteath because I really enjoyed his narration, but I thought at first that someone else was narrating this one because Hamish Macbeth doesn’t sound the same. He sounds like an old man, and the accent has changed. Very odd since David Monteath has narrated over thirty of these books. Because of this change I am struggling to get into the book as the voice is grating on me, whereas previously I found the accents very soothing, for this reason I listen to these books as a way of relaxing to go to sleep, setting the timer so I don’t miss anything
I haven’t finished it yet and my rating may change, but I hope in the next book, that Hamish is given his old voice back

Welcome back Hamish. My heart is sore.
As a west Highlander, I have lived with and loved Hamish and the gang for three decades. This was a wonderful return, even my 13 yo was exicited waiting for the new book. Beautifully written, warm witty exciting and utterly captivating. i might be a craggy old highlander but this was so poignant it hurt.
Some changes in accents, Pricilla is posher, Hamish more Highland, and the Currie twins as brilliant as ever. please can Blair get a right kicking next time!!. keep on.. Hamish is part of our lives.
