About this listen

On the day Juno Browne’s van goes up in flames and nearly cooks a dog, Juno meets James Westershall, owner of Moorworthy Chase, a large family estate. She is invited, along with her friends from Old Nick’s, to bring along their goods for sale to an upcoming garden fete. Included in the invitation is the newest and most irritating member of the Old Nick’s team, Gavin. During the fete, Gavin wanders off and is later discovered dead in nearby woods, apparently the victim of a bizarre accident. A police investigation ensues, but results are inconclusive, and Juno has a theory of her own.

As she begins to investigate, she discovers that Gavin’s is not the only strange death to have occurred at Moorworthy Chase - an expert researching colonies of rare bats in caves on the Moorworthy Estate has died as well. It soon becomes clear to Juno that there is something very wrong at Moorworthy and that the caves contain a dark and dangerous secret.

Dead on Dartmoor

Really enjoyed this story but it isn’t credible at the end. It is rushed. No explanation about the policeman? Presumably he is waiting for the heroine to turn up.

Shows a lot of promise

I liked this. The reader is good which helps enormously. And the characters have potential ... I'll look forward to seeing where the author takes Juno Browne next.

easy listening

Nice easy book to listen to. Juno comes across as a female James Bond, very tongue in cheek but that's authors licence I guess. It kept me listening to the end, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. starting on book 3 now. Great narration by the way!!

Excellent!

Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and in fact enjoyed the whole series and can’t wait for the next book. The reader is brilliant and makes the characters come alive.

Huge fan

I can’t recommend these books enough. The characters are so likeable and feel so real. The storylines are well thought through. I am desperate to visit ashburton as a result and I relisten to these books because I find them such a comfort.

Ashburtonian

As some one who grew up in Ashburton I love these books! I can visualise most the places mentioned, especially the view from the Terrace walk and I can even
guess some of the places the author refers to even with the changed street names! Can’t wait to start the next one xx

Good story with believable characters

This is the first book from this author that I have listened to and hopefully not the last. It's not challenging but the story line is strong and the characters are well crafted and I found that I was hooked quite quickly.
In my view it's not a "cosy mystery ' nor is it a hard hitting crime drama, but stikes a good balance. Also the location is perfect but I may be biasd in that view coming from that part of the country.

Is she really that stupid?

Having enjoyed the first in the series, I bought this one. There were one or two moment in-the first book where Juno behaved stupidly, but this one takes the biscuit. Totally idiotic behaviour towards known killers, letting them know she suspects them, and it gets worse. A shame because there are some fun moments and intriguing characters. I’ve now got stuck at a point where she has been so stupid that it’s obvious something nasty is going to happen, and it’s all too ridiculous. I can’t listen any more.
