About this listen

Everybody hates necromancers.

Death magic? It’s disgusting.

And dangerous.

For Conor, it’s also the skill that pays the bills. The medication that keeps him cancer free is expensive, and he’s terrified to die.

He should be. Death doesn’t like being played.

When the promise of a big payout for a small bit of thievery presents itself, Conor is all in. But nothing comes easy when magic is involved, and it isn’t long before he’s caught up in the machinations of the most powerful wizards on Earth and left with only two ways out:

Will he cheat Death?

Or meet him?

If you like Dresden, Temple, or the Iron Druid, you’ll want to meet Conor Night.

A superb urban fantasy

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead of Night to be better than the print version?

I've only listened to the audible version, but the narration is brilliant and immersed me into the story-line completely. So I'd say yes, at least for me as a listener.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Conor is my favourite character. I'm used to anti-heroes and guys you love to hate but here we have a hero that we feel sorry for. You worry about his declining health and almost don't want to get to the end because you like him and want it to turn out good - but can it? Some cool gifts. I really liked the idea of how his dice work as well as his general magical ability.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hays’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes. Really good narration, always. Really good voices to bring out the different characters and also a good voice for general narration. It's really easy to listen to and enjoy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Although equally no because I wanted everything to go well for Conor but if he's going to die do I want to see it. Yes I want to see how it turns out as its a great story. So yes, but because I've engaged with this character, no.

I listened to it in two sitting and really enjoyed it.

Whole new Take on Raising the Dead

The main character is so refreshing. Bitter and a little twisted but still with a good heart. It will be interesting to see where the next book takes this character.

Love the way the author has combined the supernatural world into something new, and no gratuitous sex scenes.

The supporting characters are so different to each other. I was so sure that one of them would be a main stay for the rest of the series, but she's been killed off! And not only that she busts his jewels for trying to bring her back.

Really getting hooked by this author and narrator. Very talented duo.
