Summary

She was racing towards the gorge. The place the locals knew as ‘Dead Girl's Drop’....

DI Meg Dalton is thrown headlong into her latest case when she finds a 10-year-old girl running barefoot through the woods in a blood-soaked nightdress. In the house nearby, the girl's father has been brutally stabbed to death.

At first Meg suspects a robbery gone tragically wrong, but something doesn’t add up. Why does the girl have no memory of what happened to her? And why has her behaviour changed so dramatically since her recent heart transplant?

The case takes a chilling turn when evidence points to the girl’s involvement in her own father’s murder. As unsettling family secrets emerge, Meg is forced to question her deepest beliefs to discover the shocking truth, before the killer strikes again....

Totally absorbing

I loved The Devil's Dice, although I've not reviewed it I notice, and this sequel is a grand follow up indeed, a long a very convoluted tale involving some far fetched ideas (my favourite thing in fiction) resulting in a very sad tale indeed, revolving around selfish people and body integrity dysphoria which I had never heard of before but was shocked to discover as a reality, this is an amazing listen, Caro Clarke narrates it brilliantly and I now feel that I should go back to The Devil's Dice for a re-listen and maybe write a review of that one too.

I wholeheartedly recommend this one to all who enjoy a convoluted ride through fear and guilt.

Marvellous Meg!

Another cracker from Roz Watkins. The book deals with topical themes and some fascinating subject matter but this is all skilfully interwoven into the storyline. Clever and thoughtful and the audible version brings Meg to life so well in all her - flawed - glory. Highly recommended.

Disappointing second book

Wasted change to develop the Meg character. . I was really looking forward to it after the brilliant first book but this fell short. The plot was way to far fetched and predictable.
