Summary

The new Charles and Anna novel

Praised as "the perfect blend of action, romance, suspense and paranormal" (Rex Robot Reviews), the Alpha and Omega novels transport listeners into the realm of the werewolf, where Charles Cornick and Anna Latham embody opposite sides of the shifter personality. Now a pleasure trip drops the couple into the middle of some bad supernatural business....

For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles' role as his father's enforcer. This time their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way....

Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae's cold war with humanity is about to heat up - and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.

Alpha & Omega Story Continues Brilliantly

What did you like best about this story?

The story continues to develop the relationship between Charles and Anna and increases our knowledge of the Werewolf world.
I enjoyed the development of the feelings of long lived Werewolves and how they cope with passing of non wolf family. The development of the emotional connections was very well written as you would expect from a Patricia Briggs book

What does Holter Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

There is never a question in your mind as to who is speaking, Holter Graham has a different voice for each character including the children. He is very good, I didn't at anytime feel he was a man pretending to be a woman. Holter added to the pleasure I got from listening to this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book is too large to listen to at one sitting but I did complete it over three days and will be listening to it again.

Disappointed in the narration

What made the experience of listening to Dead Heat the most enjoyable?

I prefer the Mercy Thompson narrator. I was uncomfortable with Holter Graham's voices for women and, particularly, children. I love this series, so was fed-up and disappointed. However, still worth buying for the characters and story.

What did you like best about this story?

The main characters.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Depiction of women and children,

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The rescue would have been moving if it wasn't for the child's voice. Dreadful.

Any additional comments?

I'm so glad that Audible is selling more books by Patricia Briggs. I hope the complete two series will appear soon.

Great!

I love all the Charles and Anna books and the Mercy books too. I wish there was more of both. This is a simple story but has good characters and interesting themes. Proper escapism.

Addictive stories!

I can so clearly ‘see’ what the author is describing and it is hard to put the story down without hearing just that little bit more!!

Love Patricia Briggs and the universe she has made

it's a wonderful book, the only thing that lets it down is Holter Graham suddenly changing Charles and Anna's voices and the kids all sound like adults who have smoked all their lives! Please go back to your previous reading style :)

What the heck?

The reader is the same for this title as for the other three in the series, and while I don't like him as much as the reader of the Mercy novels, he's been ok. But for some bizarre reason, in this book he's read the entire thing like he's trying to pitch his voice an octave below where it belongs. "Gravelly" and "breathy" don't begin to cover it. It's like he's auditioning for a satire of batman. It would be annoying enough on its own, but after three books hearing the characters speak in a different way, suddenly changing their voices is SO annoying. Boo.

brilliant story the narration doesn't sound right

I first heard holter Graham with the mercy Thompson books where he narrated Adam. loved his voice
the last 2 alpha and omega book were brilliantly narrated.
this one is so different it doesn't even sound like holter it makes it difficult to listen to because I'm used to Charles and Anna sounding a certain way. the female and child characters sound weird. I can't connect to them at all. I can't get past the voice. it's such a shame. I've listened to the other books as samples and the voices are different again. it makes it difficult with the continuity I'm sorry to say.
another good story from Patricia
