About this listen

Introducing Luke Carlton - ex-Special Boat Service commando and now under contract to MI6 for some of its most dangerous missions. Sent into the steaming Colombian jungle to investigate the murder of a British intelligence officer, Luke finds himself caught up in the coils of a plot that has terrifying international dimensions.

Hunted down, captured, tortured and on the run from one of South America's most powerful and ruthless drugs cartels and its psychotic leader thirsting for revenge, Luke is in a life-or-death race against time to prevent a disaster on a truly terrifying scale: London is the target, the weapon is diabolical and the means of delivery is ingenious.

Drawing on his years of experience in reporting on security matters, Crisis is Frank Gardner's debut novel. Combining insider knowledge, up-to-the-minute hardware, fly-on-the-wall insights and heart-in-mouth excitement, Crisis boasts an irresistible, visceral frisson of authenticity: smart, fast-paced and furiously entertaining, here is a thriller for the 21st century.

A gripping well-researched thriller

The authenticity of the story, the setting and the characters was impressive and retained my attention throughout. The technical details were presented in enough detail without being overwhelming or impeding the flow of the story. I very much hope Frank Gardiner will write more such enjoyable books.

Excellent story spoiled by a poor narrator.

Excellent story spoiled by a poor narrator. I found John Sackville's voice didn't fit the story.

I really liked the story and will listen to another of Frank Gardener's books so long as he picks a different narrator.

this one of those fairly routine thrillers, pretty good, quite thrilling and all in all worth having got on special offer.

An exciting and well read action adventure

This is an excellent fiction debut from Frank Gardner. Action, adventure, politics and foreign affairs combine to create a great book. Highly recommended.

Interesting Author . Cliched story.

I had heard of Frank Gardner and was curious about his novel.

I was disappointed.

The 111 chapters, built for airport bookshop sales sacrificed plot and severely restricted character development.

It wasn't poor James Bond it was poor bulldog Drummond. What were the editors doing?

I didn't care about the characters and the plot was penny dreadful.

Great story. Poor reading.

Really enjoyed the story however the peculiar breathy performance made the audiobook difficult to listen to. New reader for next book PLEASE.

Well written and well narrated. Would recommend to anyone who are also fans of Mitch Rapp or Dan Shepard books.

Really good first book, annoying narration

Ignore criticism on this being unoriginal, yes it follows the formula in the genre but is still a really good read. Beautifully researched and reflecting the author's obvious knowledge of security and the geography covered. Not especially cerebral but one for a great holiday read. The only downside is the annoying breathy narration by John Sackville who seems to think that every paragraph needs ending with a change of pitch and vocal dramatic effect. It detracts from the book. There are a few minor technical glitches with repeated sentences but not many. Interesting Gardner's later books use other narrators. Shame hasn't found a 'voice' for the series. Certainly will be downloading book 2 and 3 in the series.
