Summary

The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?"

Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun.

We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near.

When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate.

The survivors do what is necessary.

RC Bray is Epic, story is a little bit sentimental

Good story, but not fantastic - more....casually entertaining. I got a touch restless on the sentimental parts, and felt the story would have been better without them. Generally, though, an entertaining tale.

Fantastic emotional rollercoaster

One of the most compelling books I've ever listened to. Gayou and Bray at their very best.

Outstanding

A great conclusion to a complex story arc, wrapping up a lot but leaving a few tantalising pieces left to the imagination. Will go back to book 1 and start over with a fresh perspective soon

Phenomenal - Just phenomenal

I reviewed book 3 and noted you should not expect on ending. The author did explain he was building the story to the events here, but needed more time, hence book 4, this book. So I gave him his grace period, and so should you.

This book is phenomenal. I give the author so much credit as he delivered what he said he would. Your investment into waiting for book 4 (if you did have to wait), and then listening to it (it's quite a long book) is rewarded in buckets.

The characterizations are just so good. You will visualize them as the book is performed, not by any descriptions of their appearance, but by what they say. This is also RC Brays best narration so far, and I've heard a few, and the others were also top marks. This book / performance is another class above the rest though. On more than one occasion I found myself driving home the long way, so I had more time to listen.

We learn a lot about the insides of some of the main characters heads, and what man/women kind is capable of when their existence is threatened. The questions asked are "what would you do in this situation to protect the people you love, advance your groups chance of survival, deal with those who offer a different view or approach - How far would you go?".

There is no obvious right or wrong here. And the beauty of this book is despite the fact you naturally want to side with one side, you cannot help also sympathize with the other side too. By the end of the story you realize there are no baddies here. Just survivors.

This is by far the best book I have heard on Audible, and probably the best book I have 'consumed' full stop. The likes of Netflix should be signing up for a 4 season TV shows immediately. If there is an Oscars for Audio books, this needs to be nominated immediately. Even if this genre is not your cup of tea, I urge you to give this series a go.

My congratulations to Joshua Gayou for an exceptional piece of work, and also to RC Bray for an amazing performance.

Great end to a great series

The climax is a complete pay off for everything we've heard so far. Victories and tragedies in equal measure, and a satisfying conclusion. Well worth listening to the whole series.

Wow, wow, and erm wow

This is the best film I have heard ever! Have had commune 1,2,3 and now 4. My goodness, the writing and delivery is way way above what I have expected in my last 72 audible outings. The characters are brought to life by sir Bray, and the writing is so so real you cannot help but to be invested in their future. Book 5 is apparently imminent, invest your time, invest your money, this is a masterclass of audible satisfaction!
