Summary

The hit Commune Series is back with book five! Rejoin some of your old favorites and plenty of unforgettable new ones on another deadly romp through post-apocalyptic America.

Books and Bug are polar opposites, despite their friendship. Rumors on the road speak of a hospital in Washington D.C. Leading a small group of survivors, including pregnant women, the two travel in earnest to provide the soon-to-be mothers a safe place to deliver.

Bug, a natural, charismatic leader, refuses to leave anyone behind while the other, Books, is a pragmatic social outsider who wishes not to be responsible for the safety of others. Together, they're exactly what this group needs to survive.

But DC isn't exactly the safehaven they hoped for, having been divided into three major factions: the Mall—which is controlled by a man named Knox and his lieutenants—Columbia Heights to the north, and Anacostia to the south.

On arrival, Books immediately recognizes that the people of the Mall are in a wartime posture. Uncomfortable with the idea of being pulled into someone else's war, he advises that the entire company should depart. Bug, upon realizing that the Mall is wonderfully organized with hydro-electric power, security, and a functioning hospital, refuses that advice, stating that it is more than fair that they should help their new benefactors defend their adopted territory.

Can their bond endure their conflicting points of view or will they be drawn against each other, and into a war that will consume everyone...leaving DC in Ashes?

Brilliant!

I thought the Commune series was over so this was a pleasant surprise when released. And…..it was fantastic. Everything we’ve come to expect. Look forward to Book 6. FYI…this isn’t a continuation of the original series but an expansion of the universe. RC Bray awesome as always.

Amazing book

Absolutely loved it and couldn't stop listening. Devon Ford and Josh Gayou are two of the best authors out there. Bray is brilliant as always.

As good as ever

a tour de force of good characterisation and world building . I loved.this just as much as the other commune books and whilst it may feature new characters (although there is a welcome return of some too) it remains every bit a commune novel

The Best Universe in the Genre

Read the first 4 commune books? this is the start of a new series in the same universe! if you loved the previous 4 then you'll love this one if you're not already following the authors on social media you won't regret looking them up. you'll feel like part of a bugger family.

RC Bray. he's like the Barry White of narration can't do a bad performance.

Thanks for an excellent listen, and Joshua if you read this specific review I'd appreciate a shout out on SDFTSB Charlie English.

ABSOLUTELY A-MAZ-ING

it's not a continuation of Book 4 and the Jake series, its mostly new characters. it is however the same style, depth of character development and accuracy that you'd expect from Joshua Gayou, with a pizazz of Devon C Ford.
I loved it. I loved the fact that there were black people in the main characters. I loved getting to "know " new characters. I didn't like that someone killed off 1 of my favourite characters (listen to find out who)
I felt like I was visiting a friends kitchen party, having beers with a new group that felt familiar. it's dead good, and stuff. you won't regret listening if you love Gayou or Ford

Loved every single minute

I have been a fan of Commune Series since I discovered it and itching for each next book to listen to. This was outstanding, hoping and praying that there is a next one, glad to see some of the past characters making the headlines. Joshua Gayou and Devon C. Ford not forgetting R.C. Bray, many thanks and look forward to the next one (hoping mightily).

A new direction

I was a bit worried when the book went off at (more or less) a complete tangent and left the characters of the Valley who I had come to enjoy discovering.

I needn’t have been worried as Joshua (and now RC) managed to create a number of interesting and well-rounded characters but within a recognisable world that we first encounter in books 1-4.

Looking forward to discovering more about these characters and their journey but hope we get to meet Jake et al again.
