About this listen

The Russians are looking for a few good men, and they're doing most of their looking within the British University system. It's a ploy which has served them well in the past, but now there's a difference. As Dr David Audley discovers very quickly, the aim of the Soviets is not simply to recruit, but to lay the groundwork for destruction.

From the dim, comfortable reading rooms of Oxford to the bleak moors stretching away from Hadrian's Wall, Audley searches for the Russian wolf in don's clothing. What Audley can't know is that the agent has been forbidden to fail...on pain of death.

Excellent read

What did you like most about Colonel Butler's Wolf?

I am relatively new to Anthony Price and the David Audley series - they are excellent examples of spy drama, set in the second world war and post war years. This book is written from Colonel Butlers viewpoint, and I find this a terrific way of fleshing the characters out and seeing other perspectives. A very good narrator and a great story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Despite liking most characters as you get to know them more, I am fascinated by the testy, clever and secretive David Audley.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Final scenes in Scotland

Any additional comments?

An intricate and absorbing tale.

I discovered Anthony Price fairly recently and gave really enjoyed his work so far. It's intricate, absorbing and erudite. It was interesting to contrast the viewpoint from Butler in this one with Audley's narrative in the first novel.
