Summary

Code to Zero is a fast-paced thriller about the satellite space race in the Cold War, from the master of suspense and author of The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett.

A Man with No Memory

A man wakes up to find himself lying on the ground in a railway station, his mind stripped bare of all recollection. He has no idea how he got there; he does not even know his own name. Convinced he is a drunken down and out, it isn’t until a newspaper report about a satellite launch catches his eye, that he suspects all is not what it seems . . .

A Race for the Future
The year is 1958, and America is about to launch its first satellite in a desperate attempt to match the Soviet Sputnik and regain the lead in the space race. As Luke Lucas gradually unravels the mystery of his amnesia, he realizes that his fate is bound up with that of the rocket that stands ready on launch pad 26B at Cape Canaveral.

A World on the Brink
As he relearns the story of his life, he uncovers long-kept secrets about his wife, his best friend and the woman he once loved more than life itself. But even more terrifying is the dark secret they tried to make him forget, a secret that threatens America’s survival.

Rockets, espionage, romance. What more could you want?

A great story interspersed with just enough technical information on rockets and the space race to understand what is going on. Set before mobile phones and WiFi its interesting historically. It makes you think about loyalties, beliefs and integrity as well as a great story that is difficult to switch off.

Brilliant as always. Ken Follett has yet to let me down with any of his books. Thrilling and thoroughly entertaining all the way through.

Code to Zero

Personal choice but didn’t like the narrator and the story took ages to get going. Not his finest piece of work - although others with disagree

Good story

The story is intriguing from the start. The only negative was Ian Porter’s voice for Billy. Somehow the voice he gave her conjured up a small shrew like woman with a high opinion of herself and absolutely no charm!

A cracking good spy story

Ken Follett certainly knows how to write a great story that kept me gripped from start to finish through twist and turns of plot in which I was never sure who was the spy. The narrator does a good job of maintaining the pace of the story.

Below his usual standard

I’m a big fan of Ken Follett and had this been the first book of his I read I may not have read as many as I have!
His best work is “Pillars of The Earth”

An excellent thriller

Another engaging thriller from the talented Mr Follett. The historical facts are interesting and the story original and tense. I was happy to suspend disbelief and overlook small contradictions for the sake of enjoying a good story. Follett imo seldom disappoints.
