Summary

A milestone in the history of the novel, Samuel Richardson’s epistolary and elaborate Clarissa follows the life of a chaste young woman desperate to protect her virtue. When beautiful Clarissa Harlowe is forced to marry the rich but repulsive Mr. Solmes, she refuses, much to her family’s chagrin. She escapes their persecution with the help of Mr. Lovelace, a dashing and seductive rake, but soon finds herself in a far worse dilemma.

Terrifying and enlightening, Clarissa weaves a tapestry of narrative experimentation into a gripping morality tale of good versus evil. The recording is divided into three volumes.

Long, often tedious bit brilliant.

Long, tedious at times (Richardson needed an editor) but a masterpiece. Stick with it, it deserves its acclaim.

Wonderful

A mammoth production well meriting the 3 credits, all actors are convincing and the story itself engaging and endearing. Already looking forward to reading or listening again soon.

Great production

As this is a very long book, the use of different narrators is essential to not get tired of listening. They did a great job.

Clarissa Volume 3

The final volume of a very long book, and more dramatic than the first two. Very well acted and produced.

Bad choice of narrator for Lovelace

Great except for the totally unsuitable casting of Lovelace ... nasal whining seriously detracts from the generally excellent novel and cast.
