Summary

An emotional story of healing, redemption, and love from USA Today best-selling author Kacey Shea.

This summer I'm leaving my hometown for a fresh start. It's a necessary choice in my pursuit of a full and sober life. Besides, escaping to the Outer Banks isn't a hardship. This seaside town holds everything I need and more.

That is, until I run into Chase Matthews.

He's an arrogant, cocky, self-absorbed jerk who has already come between me and my best friend once. The smart thing to do is keep him at a distance, even if he seems lost and alone.

Instead, I'm compelled to help him.

Chase is broken and beautiful in ways I fully understand. It's been months since I've indulged in a drink, but I've found a new obsession.

He's everything I want and the last thing I need.

Each day draws us closer, but I can't allow myself to get caught up in Chase. We were only meant to have the summer. A temporary fling. Yet my heart has other plans. I don't know how I'll ever walk away. Even if he costs me everything.

Enjoy Alicia and Chase's epic love story, Caught in the Chase, or start with Callie's book, Caught in the Flames.

Twelve hours well spent

I’m not totally sold, but I definitely enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read the end of the duet.

Addiction is at the heart of the story, mostly alcoholism. How it starts, the impact of someone’s life, when they reach rock bottom, the moment one realizes his addiction, the decision to search for help, the long and uncertain recovery, the relapses… All the steps of an addict’s journey are there. But not in a didactic way, no worries.

We follow two characters who are at different moments of their own journey. Alicia has been sober for some time already, though she had a relapse several months before. That’s when she made a mistake with Chase, who, at the beginning of the story, doesn’t even realize the impact alcohol has on his life. Alicia will help him on his path to recovery.

But of course, attraction and feelings get in the way. It’s kind of a forbidden romance between a recovering addict and his sponsor–a recipe for a mess. But at the same time, maybe their connection is what makes Chase aware of his problem, and willing to do something about it. On the other hand, Alicia is riddled with guilt over what happened with Chase, and is trying to atone for it in a way, while keeping their fling a secret. Do you see the disaster coming?

My main problem was with the characters actually. They aren’t exactly good people, and not because of their addiction. They were in the previous duet of the series, and though I haven’t read it, we get enough details here to understand that they did some pretty bad stuff before. But they also have reasons and explanations and excuses for their behavior–and valid ones at that. And you end up liking them and rooting for them. I don’t like being manipulated into liking bad people. Good job from the author though.

I enjoyed the setting of the story. Both Alicia and Chase, for very different reasons, spend their summer helping troubled kids. It was interesting because that meant a lot of interactions with other characters, and the kids have their own story, that isn’t related to the main romance. It also helped Chase and Alicia not being focused solely on their relationship. They have a duty and responsabilities, and the way they handle them is part of their journey.

Their families and friends also have an important role in the book. It was a bit too easy to make them the reason Chase and Alicia started drinking in the first place, but the dramas are interesting.

The narration was great. Maybe Alicia deserved to have a little more energy, but the narrator expresses her emotions perfectly. The male narrator, as usual, is amazing, and gives the right cockiness mixed with uncertainty to Chase. Twelve hours well spent.

Amazing angsty goodness and perfect narration team

Angsty and heartbreaking, Alicia and Chase’s story is full of pain and hurt. These lead to horrible decisions with awful consequences and both work hard to love with their outcomes. I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan of Chase in the prior books and the beginning of this book made me dislike him even more. Alicia also, seemed like a bit of a spoiled person but like a masterful story teller, Kacey Shea peeled back the layers of the onion and gave us a deeper, often heartbreaking look into what made them the way they were. Difficult issues were tackled, such as alcoholism and even abuse. But they were handled well and realistically, showing that even when you take a step forward, regression is likely when you're fighting an addiction. This is book one of a duet and I reveled in the rest of their path to their HEA in Caught in Us (book 2).

I first read the ebook but then listened to the audiobook, narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Teddy Hamilton. These two were the perfect narrators for this book. Teddy Hamilton's tough growly voice and Savannah Peachwood's smooth voice really elevated the story, making an emotional story even more so. The audiobook is a fantastic way to experience this story!

Caught in a fab story

Book 3 in the series . You don’t need to listen to book 1 or 2 . This story by Kacey Shea has everything you will need to stay and listen till the end . Kacey wrote a strong story very well detailed and strong characters. Love how Kacey wrote a story with an issue that ends happy. Both Chase and Alice are Alcoholics both for different issues. Yes Chase is a jerk because of what he’s going through. Once both Chase and Alice meet they help each other get by day by day .

Teddy Hamilton, Savannah Peachwood Performance is fantastic. They brought the characters and story to life. They pull you right in , right beside the characters.

Incredible story with great narrators!

Caught In The Chase is the third book in the Caught series and is the first part of Alicia and Chase's story. and its a heart wrenching tale of love, loss and dealing with addiction whilst finding something unexpected.
We've seen glimpses of Alicia and Chase in previous books in the series and now we have their story and what a story it is!
After a devastating accident, Chase is banished to Kittyhawk and has to volunteer at a community centre for the next three months.
Alicia has found a great job for the summer and couldn't be more excited to get away from Richmond and start something new. But what she wasn't expecting was Chase volunteering at the centre too.
Chase and Alicia have a messy history, filled with regret and a lot of alcohol and times they both want to forget.
But during the summer, something unexpected happens, by helping each other with their sobriety, they end up growing closer which then leads to something more.
What Alicia and Chase have created in their KittyHawk bubble is something incredible and something neither of them would of expected or imagined was possible.
But when you can't tell you family and friends about your relationship. Can it last past Kittyhawk or are Chase and Alicia doomed to live by the mistakes of their past?
I loved Caught In The Chase so much, it was so good and very gripping, I couldn't put it down and when I did I was constantly thinking about Alicia and Chase!
Teddy Hamilton and Savannah Peachwood done an amazing job of bringing Alicia and Chase to life and I cannot wait for part two of their story!
I received an arc of Caught In The Chase and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
