Summary
Dove Connolly is dead. That’s not good for anyone in Tullyanna, never mind Dove.

Over the past few days, Kevin, no flies on him, had sensed a tension in the town thanks to Dove Connolly’s poor decision to blow his own head off. It wasn’t just the act of self-harm itself, the pointless splattering of blood and bone and brain all over his bedroom wall, that was the issue, unsettling as that was. In so doing, poor Dove had spread panic amongst the townspeople, raising all sorts of ugly questions, reviving all sorts of rumours, and inviting all sorts of unwelcome attention upon them. In Kevin’s mind, there was method in Dove’s madness. Showing a shocking assertiveness for possibly the first time in his life, and the last, says you, Dove blew the lid off the whole town.

A bit of a struggle
I struggled a bit to finish this and if I’m honest, I finished it out of a strange sense of loyalty - you see, I come from the same town as the author. For me, a major problem was the authors decision to narrate himself. As a fan of Fr. Ted, I could not shake the feeling that I was listening to Fr. Dougle Mc Guire. Careful now!

Excellent narration, story arch and writing
I was a little hesitant and unsure about the quality of the Ardal as a writer but gave it a go and I'm so glad I did. really well and intelligently written, good story with believable dialogue, good humour mixed with darker informative story. obviously narrated well as he knows the subject better than anyone else. Thoroughly recommended.

Quite a tough listen
An ok story spun over too many hours. Was really optimistic about this book but I really felt it could have been done in half the time and half the words. A lot of filler with a fairly rudimentary conclusion. Shame

Some book for one book
If u love a murder mystery this book is your one!
Peppered with lots of Irish comedy peppered through!
Very thoughtful in its moments of comedy!
Just hope he gets the next one done a lot sooner!

Tough listen
I love Ardal but I agree with others he should have got a professional reader to read it. It would have separated the characters and give them more individuality. I also think Ardal being Irish went off track telling some irrelevant tails, but I guess he must have killed the Blarney Stone.

Loved it - in time….
I’d rate this as once if the very best books I’ve listened to in a long time but I started it again about 4 times after half an hour, an hour or so maybe, as it just hadn’t engaged me as well as I’d hoped - concede I am distracted and with audiobooks sometimes you have to, well, not be. But once I paid attention soooo worth it I loved this book and being narrated by the author made it all the better. Give it the go, it’s rewarding in unexpected ways.
