Summary

Alexander’s costly victory at Northport provides only a brief reprieve from the onslaught of enemy forces converging on those loyal to the Old Law. Prince Phane has created a deadly new soldier - man mixed with darkness - imbued with terrible power and a purpose so sinister that that it could turn those Alexander loves most against him…or take them away from him forever. Zuhl is plundering Fellenden, killing, torturing, and enslaving the people for his own selfish purpose. He’s using the fabled Iron Oak forest to build a fleet of warships capable of dominating the oceans of the Seven Isles, ensuring his ultimate dominion over everyone, everywhere. The shades are loose in the world and starting to make their move. They intend to open the Nether Gate and plunge the world of time and substance into eternal darkness. Blood of the Earth is the story of Alexander’s struggle to preserve the Old Law against impossible odds while trying desperately to save the one person he loves most from a fate worse than death.

Exceptional...!!

I think it is highly unlikely anyone will be reading this review.

If you've listened to the first three books, and like me, throughly enjoyed them, you will be buying this book without hesitation.

If you didn't enjoy the first three books, why are you looking at reviews of the fourth book?!?!

This author/narrator combination is fantastic, I literally can't get enough...

In a fight with a sword in his hand.....

If I hear the phrase "in a fight with a sword in his hand" one more time in this series I may have to stop listening. Surely it can only be repeated so many times 🙈. Other than that I'm enjoying it.

Disliking the main character more and more

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Made the main character more consistent. He's all good, Mr Perfect. And yet will happily risk the life of every person in his kingdom for his true love. A dedicated follower of the "old law" that ignores it at his choosing, but always for a very good reason. I dislike the characters in these books so much! I'm only reading it because I've started the story and need to finish it.

If you’ve listened to books by David A. Wells before, how does this one compare?

It's about as bad as the other books he's written in this series. One dimensioned characters that are either all bad or all good. Yet, they are inconsistent. This isn't another side of the character, to develop it and make them more realistic; but rather a shallow indictment of each character's personality.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Irritation.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait until I've finished this series. I'll never had to read a David A. Wells book again. (Sorry, Mr Wells!)
