About this listen
Contains books one and two of Legend of Tal, a sword-and-sorcery, coming-of-age adventure.
A King's Bargain, book one
The legend of Tal Harrenfel is sung across the Westreach, and with each telling, the tales grow taller.
Though he's declared a hero by his king, Tal has never claimed to be more than a man. After three decades of fighting warlocks, killing mythical beasts, and hunting enchanted treasure, Tal has had enough. Running from the deeds of his past, he retreats to his home village under a different name and meets an unlikely companion: Garin, a village boy who dreams of making a name for himself and seeing the world beyond their sleepy town.
When Tal receives a mysterious visitor, both he and Garin find themselves thrown into a sojourn across the kingdom. Soon, they become embroiled in the plots of monarchs, on the frontlines of an ancient war, and at the mercy of a fabled sorcerer. Now Tal must live up to his legend, and Garin must discover his own power, to survive the forces pitted against them.
A Queen's Command, book two
The legend of Tal Harrenfel lives on, and a new song spreads across the Westreach.
Though Tal and Garin overcame one enemy, victory promises to be short-lived. Garin struggles with his inner demons. Tal is haunted by enemies and memories alike. And a long-kept secret has torn a rift between them.
But circumstances force them to continue their travels together. The roads from Avendor to Gladelyl, once the safest in the Westreach, are rife with danger. And Tal is bound to the commands of the Elf Queen whose intentions are unforeseeable. But reaching the elven realm is only the beginning of their troubles, for Gladelyl is in turmoil. The nobles grasp for power. The underclass and Eastern immigrants seek new rights. And an ancient enemy takes advantage of the chaos to turn them all against each other. Now Garin must come to terms with his demons.

A proper page turner.
It has been a while since I listened to a fantasy book. This has reignited my passion for this genre. Great story, amazing narrator. Can't wait to start the next book.

A Different Kind of Hero
Tal is, and has always been, only a man. He is a man trying to do what is best for others, struggling to make amends for the past, and, hardest of all, keep from being drawn back into a fight he left behind years before. Tal is just a man trying to keep danger away from those he loves, even if that means hurting those he cares for in the process. A man not afraid to play the fool if it serves his ends, a trickster, a sorcerer, a fighter. his journey will enrapture you.

Capturing story
Really enjoyed. Some odd character decisions/indecisions, looking forward to more listens in the series.

reasonable audible book
Only found a main issue in the first book, the pacing was a bit slow for me.
Other wise minor issue, due to having read them extensively most of the names I know from 2 series by David Eddings. The Belgrion and The Malloreon, most of the main characters feature same or similar names.
Once you get by the slow pace of the first book, it picks up speed, I recommend bookmarking regularly. Then becomes a page turner or in audible form play back speed at 0.75

1 great, 2 good
Listened to the first book easily, second was a bit draggy but overall the story is gripping though lacks depth and punch. Too many hints and side characters, and the self reflections in the middle of battle are tedious. Great narration, though I am not sure I will progress onto the next book as I am sure the self-doubt dialog will continue in fights. I have to own up, I skipped a couple of sections in book 2. Still not convinced about the 4 star rating, I am leaning to 3 for the story.

Surprised
The story kept me interested as it's not predictable.
The reader did a good job, even with the male characters.
The ending didn't disappoint.
I'd listen to the next book as long as the reader stays the same.

Very good
Extremely satisfying, at times I was lost and had to go back but it was mostly about the protagonist who had so many different monikers. Narrator was excellent.
