Summary
It is a case unlike any psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware has ever encountered. Five-year-old Woody Swope is ill, but the real problem is his parents. They refuse to agree to the one treatment that could save this boy's life.
Alex sets out to convince Mr. and Mrs. Swope - only to find that the parents have left the hospital and taken their son with them. Worse, the sleazy motel room where the Swopes were staying is empty - except for the ominous bloodstain. The Swopes and their son have vanished into the sordid shadows of the city.
Now Alex and his friend, homocide detective Milo Sturgis, have no choice but to push the law to the breaking point. They've entered an amoral underworld where drugs, dreams, and sex are all for sale...where fantasies are fulfilled at any price - even at the cost of a young boy's life.

Fantastic read
Great story, keeps you guessing to the end.
Another triumph for Jonathan Kellerman.
Couldn't put it down.

Good thriller, sometimes questionable
First person character is a psychologist and this gives the story a nice perspective with him working along with the cops. But this highly educated person is also inexcusably racist at times. This is not a big part of the story but irritates me all the same. Might get better in later books?

Not the best
I really enjoyed the first book in this series but was disappointed by this one. The plot was weak and was slow to get going. I'm going to try book 3 hopefully this was just a one off.

Gross
This is the first Kellerman book I’ve ever read or listened to. I don’t know why detective books need to resort to porn. I’m not a prude, but this cheapens the genre. The prose is silly and the plot is very credible. Some non-relevant descriptions go on and on. And on. The narrator is old-timey (this was probably a book on tape many years ago). Too dramatic and inappropriate. I was particularly irritated with his mispronunciation of Kauai, which just happens to be my home. This is not some obscure place. It’s an American island. I know Kellerman is a best-selling author, so I just assume he has improved over the years.
