Summary
When 16-year-old Hannah Sheraton is arrested for the murder of her stepgrandfather, the chief justice of the California Supreme court, her distraught mother turns to her old college roommate, Josie Baylor-Bates, for help. Josie, once a hot-shot criminal defense attorney, left the fast track behind for a small practice in Hermosa Beach, California.
But Hannah Sheraton intrigues her and, when the girl is charged as an adult, Josie cannot turn her back. But the deeper she digs the more Josie realizes that politics, the law, and family relationships create a combustible and dangerous situation.
When the horrible truth is uncovered it can save Hannah Sheraton or destroy them both.

Love or hate, still not sure
I have to admit to having not made my mind up about loving or hating this book. I didn't like any of the characters, which didn't help, I found them infuriating and frustrating. Saying that, I did find that it was gripping to the end. Fast paced and full of suspense, though a little predictable at times.

Twist at the end
I had a slow start with this book. Nearly gave up in chapter 6 but persevered. Glad I did. Story was slightly predictable but really quite good. There were ‘pockets’ of unecessary over description which made me want to fast forward but that was mainly at the begining. Over all a good read while waiting for my next credit. Narration was good.
