About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Jackson Brodie has relocated to a quiet seaside village in North Yorkshire, in the occasional company of his recalcitrant teenage son Nathan and ageing Labrador Dido, both at the discretion of his former partner Julia. It's a picturesque setting, but there's something darker lurking behind the scenes.
Jackson's current job, gathering proof of an unfaithful husband for his suspicious wife, seems straightforward, but a chance encounter with a desperate man on a crumbling cliff leads him into a sinister network-and back into the path of someone from his past. Old secrets and new lies intersect in this breathtaking new literary crime novel, both sharply funny and achingly sad, by one of the most dazzling and surprising writers at work today.
'The stand-out read of the summer. It's a masterclass in brilliant writing and whether you've read the earlier books in the series or not, you'll enjoy it.' Independent
'Like all good detectives, he is a hero for men and women alike.' The Times
'Laced with Atkinson's sharp, dry humour, and one of the joys of the Brodie novels has always been that they are so funny.' Observer

Absolutely loved it
Really enjoyed the latest installment on Jackson Brodie from Kate Atkinson.
The older books weren't very fresh, but many of the references and characters brought them flooding back.

Jackson Brodie's Back! And oh, Jason Isaacs
What a relief to have a new Jackson Brodie book after Atkinson's weird forays into serious fiction (I know they did well but I thought they were really boring and affected) and how wonderful to hear Jason Isaacs being the world's greatest reader and actor. I loved everything about this - warm, and funny and clever and fabulous.

Neat Crime Jigsaw
I enjoyed this Jackson Brodie Audible presentation having watched the 'Case Histories' series on TV. The plot is topical and credible with an excellent cast of characters that could easily be developed. Apart from Harry, the men in the novel are mostly unpleasantly two dimensional but the women are much more engaging. I particularly liked the 'Kray twins' and Crystal Holroyd. If you like Peter James and his Roy Grace series I'm sure you'll enjoy this book.

What a great book
Excellent story superbly read by Jason Isaacs (Jackson Brodie himself). It is hard not to like Jackson and it is hard not to admire Kate Atkinson who has the ability to make you laugh one minute and rage the next.
A powerful story and sadly, one which is totally believable!

Reggie Chase returns
Reggie is one of my favourite literary characters of all time. It’s been a joy to follow her adventures and to watch her character develop. Feisty, intelligent, funny and utterly inspiring.
Like all of the Jackson Brodie novels, this is an irresistible blend of social commentary, reflections on the horrors of humanity, and faith in the human spirit to find comedy and compassion in the darkest moments. Intelligent writing.

Brodie is back !!
Hello to Jason Isaacs 😊 Couldn't decide whether to go slow to make it last or fast to enjoy the ride. Brodie is back at his, and Kate Atkinson's, wonderful best. Beautifully read, of course

Brilliant Narration
Whilst the subject of the book was difficult- abused children, sex trafficking- the subject was dealt robustly by Jackson. Jason Isaacs is the perfect Jackson. The only problem I have is that Kate Atkinson assumes that we remember all the characters she has introduced over the years -15? They are dropped into the narrative and we are supposed to remember their back story. Kate has written the Jackson Brodie books as light relief from her more worthy novels. She has probably got a crib sheet we don’t. Did, however, enjoy the book and look forward to the next Jackson Brodie book hopefully with a personae dramatis.

Great stuff
I really enjoyed this story, lots of twists and turns to keep you alert. Read brilliantly by Jason Issacs, he really captured all the characters, most especially Jackson. Loved the musical references also (which sent me off on many a musical interlude).Enjoyed it from beginning to end.
