Summary
What if mythology isn't myth? The ancient Greeks told fabulously detailed stories involving unbelievable creatures - monsters dominating all tales from that time. Were they just highly imaginative, or was their inspiration from somewhere else?
Doctor Talbot Harrison, a professor in archaeology, receives a phone call one day which will destroy everything he perceives as reality. His brother has been mysteriously killed and within moments, the United States military appear at his door, literally dragging him from his home. Thrown into a helicopter under intense armed guard, it doesn't take long until they are attacked by something which cannot possibly exist, something drawn to destroy the one man who can stop the beasts from a land beyond Hades....

It’s ok…
I’m a great fan of mythology and fantasy but this just didn’t cut it for me. It seemed like mythical beasts/names etc were listed and the story created to fit as many of them in as possible. When I look at the next book and Norse mythology I’m not tempted to read it. I feel it will be more of the same. Unfortunately…

Action packed from start to finish.
This page turner takes you from an ego driven decision to open a gate to another world to the desperation to close it again. The twists and blood curdling turns to the journey that takes the two main characters full circle, has them time travelling, while battling savage mystical beasts a plenty.
If you enjoy a blood thirsty read, filled with action and the battle to beat the impossible, then this is the book for you. I give it 5 stars!

Great book
A compelling listen, book so much to take in all rapped up in plot that spans dimensions, examines history, and shows the finger to the gods. Go on give it a go.

Very cleverly written
After looking at the other reviews about this, it did take a good couple of chapters to get into it, but it was a very clever idea. Well written. You really need to listen to the whole book and maybe try it out for a second time with the criticism of one attack after another, that’s what happens in action books. Legends and mythos is exactly that and can be used in a number of different different ways as all these histories aren’t 100% accurate. I have read the first two books and the way it comes together. As I said is a very clever twist on the Greek myth.. This is fiction and supposed to be very entertaining and that’s exactly what it was, and the fast pace made it a page turner.

Each chapter is like Ground Hog Day
Super Mario Brothers get chased by a monster from one side of the screen to the other. Then the game pauses for 5 minutes before a new monster chases them to the next screen. That literally happens for 8 chapters. There's no subtlety, wit or cleverness in the writing, it's just a roll-call of every monster from Greek mythology turning up one by one chapter by chapter, no clues are dropped, the characters are 1-dimensional, the protagonist keeps saying and thinking the same things, there's no side plots, the conflict is the same throughout, and at the end of 8 chapters, I couldn't take any more.

Skip it.
Didn't finish. Characters weren't very believable, it felt like a string of bad things that happened to the MC (without spoilers) but very disjointed. Not very well written, and I got bored. The narrator was fine though.

Free for a reason
Ugh... only made it through a few chapters before getting utterly bored. Although the premise is outrageously fantastical, it is the behaviour of the humans that is gratingly unbelievable. Characters are total stereotypes (carefree, irreverent Aussie, power crazed, ignorant American military leaders), poorly written and narrated. The writing and storyline is cringeworthy in its naivety and lack of maturity to the extent that it sounds like the chaotic fantasies of an eight year old (no offence meant to eight year olds). I found my myself groaning out loud at every "jaw dropping" and "it couldn't be". The main protagonist's thought process switch from doom and despair to determined bravery in a matter of secondsThe narrator was always on a loser with this book, but only succeeded in making it more difficult to endure.
Only listening because it's free and I'm waiting for Expeditionary Force 16 to come out. If you want to see how it should be done, listen to RC Bray read Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force series.
Please save yourself from the agony I have been through and give this one a miss! Reading my review back I just keep thinking how I have failed to express how bad this book is!

Great idea terrible execution
What a wasted opportunity. Great idea but dreadful writing and no character build up not helped by awful narration. Maybe I would have given this more if the narrator wasn’t so dreadful at accents and voices.
