Summary

The goal isn't to be sober. The goal is to love yourself so much you don't need to drink.

For decades we have been sold the idea that alcohol is our 'reward' at the end of a busy day. We use it to celebrate and commiserate, for self-care and socialising, and to relieve the stress of the daily grind.

But alcohol affects our physical and mental wellbeing in ways we don't even realise. It negatively impacts our sleep, anxiety levels, weight and skin, not to mention our mood and mindset. If you can't remember when you last felt energised, optimistic or motivated, you are not alone.

Creating a life without alcohol can feel scary. In a culture so captivated with booze, can we really remove it altogether and still be happy? The answer is absolutely YES, and this audiobook shows you how.

Excellent, evidence informed advice

This could have been just another middle class, middle aged woman’s narrative about a sober journey, but it is so much more than that. A brilliant book packed full of useful advice and guidance. As a psychotherapist specialising in trauma, I particularly liked the episode covering this - it is well informed, up to date and helpful. The only thing that grated on me at times was the over perky, speedy delivery (indicative of sympathetic deregulation IMO) and the tired platitudes that crept in now and then like ‘dream big and make it happen’ or ‘focus on solutions!’ That aside, I heartily recommend this to any woman interested in an alcohol free life. Jolly well done author! 👏
