Summary

Lights, camera…attraction!

When Tag O’Rourke, struggling actor-slash-barista, meets Jay Warren, son of acting royalty, it’s loathing at first sight. Loathing…and lust.

Tag’s dream is to act, but it’s a dream that’s crumbling beneath the weight of student debt and his family’s financial problems. If his career doesn’t take off soon, he’s going to have to get a real job. After all, feeding his family is more important than feeding his soul.

Luckily, Tag’s about to get his big break…

Jay never had to dream about acting; he was always destined to follow in his famous mother’s footsteps. But fame has its price and a traumatic experience early in Jay’s career has left him with paralyzing stage fright, which is why he sticks to the safety of TV work—and avoids relationships with co-stars at all costs.

Unfortunately, Jay’s safe world is about to be rocked…

After an ill-judged yet mind-blowing night together, Jay and Tag part acrimoniously. So it’s a nasty shock when they discover that they’ve been cast in a two-man play that could launch Tag’s career and finally get Jay back onto the stage where he belongs.

Sure, it’s not ideal, but how bad can working with your arch-nemesis be?

All they have to do is survive six weeks rehearsing together and navigate a cast of smarmy festival directors, terrible landladies, and vengeful journalists. Oh, and try not to fall in love before the curtain rises…

Break a leg!

As good as the first

I liked this one very much. The vibe, the trepidation, the theater world. Nothing over dramatic and nicely developed side characters. I had to suffer through a few chapters about secondary people who I did not remember anymore. But in York the story took off.
Now, I have to relisten Yanni's Story because this novel reminded me of that favorite of mine.

Great end to the series

I loved Tag in the previous books of the series, and I found Jay difficult to.like, so imagine my disappointment when Tag became obnoxious and opinionated every time he was near Jay. As for Jay, I felt sorry for him and the way he's treated by family and acquaintances. This change of how I expected to feel worried me at first. But once they got to York, the story and by extension the romance really took off.
An excellent end to the series.
And the narrator, who has been the same for the whole series, did another excellent job

Wonderful and heartfelt story

I loved this story and personally think it is the best of the series so far. I love the relationship that formed between Tag and Jay, how understanding and supportive Tag was, and how they both learned to look beyond the surface and first impressions of each other. There are some hiccups, misunderstandings, and trolls along the way, but the emotional climax was truly touching and heartfelt. I highly recommend this audiobook.

The narration was superb, and really brought the characters to life for me.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Interesting Relationship

Best Supporting Actor is the third book in Joanna Chambers and Sally Malcolm's Creative Types series, you can read these books as standalones.

These are interesting characters, though at the stary I wasn't really sure how the authors would make a relationship between them work. Once they get to York and start rehearsals for this play though everything changes.

I enjoyed the hurt/comfort aspects of the story as well.

Simon Goldhill delivers a marvelous performance in the audio edition of . I enjoyed all the different voices Goldhill comes up with for this varied cast of characters. He has a very pleasant accent and it really suits this series.

Loved every moment

I loved everything about this! I came in blind, not having read any other books of the series (which I will be rectifying!), so I had no idea what to expect. At first, I did not like Jay at all, and Tag seemed a little immature so I was worried, but once we got some time in each of their heads and understood their motivation I was completely hooked on these two. There's some miscommunication very early on, and sometimes it felt like just waiting for the other shoe to drop, but in the meantime I loved the interactions, the banter, the overall chemistry of it all! There is some light angst near the end, but it all works out in a way that makes sense for these two and what they're going through. Simon Goldhill is a new narrator to me and I thought he was the perfect choice. He brought a ton of emotion to the characters, making me hurt with them and laugh with them and just feel everything.

MM - Real-life Issues

This is my third book from these two talented authors, whose storytelling prowess never fails to captivate.

The storytelling was so balanced. The two main characters and the background story merged well, keeping me emotionally invested at every turn. The two main characters, Tag and Jay (Julius), had good character depth, wonderful backstories, and there were some great side characters.

I love the battle between the classes and how it was handled. The authors did a fantastic job of portraying the societal divide and the struggles faced by the characters from different backgrounds. It's well worth a read/listen, and I recommend it.

Simon Goldhill did a brilliant job. His narration was very clear and easy to listen to. However, like usual, I did speed up the audio to 1.20 on audible to match my reading pace and maintain the momentum of the story.

Amazing romantic story!

I loved this when I read it with my eyes and now I’ve loved it all over again listening to the wonderful performance by Simon Goldhill.

I really liked how all of my emotions were engaged by the things that happened - some lighthearted and others much more serious. I shed more than a few tears for what Jay was going through near the end of the book.

I loved the encore (epilogue) set four months later. I liked finding out where Jay and Tag were at in their lives at that point.

I’m sorry to see this series end and I hope that these authors collaborate again in the future.

great

I have now listened to this book on audio, narrated by the talented Simon Goldhill, and his narration really enhanced an already excellent story. Thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself wincing and gasping and crying and laughing at times, even though I'd already read it.

I really enjoy this writing duo. They somehow write books that are great all-rounders, and it's great to occasionally read something that feels authentically British, which this absolutely does.

While it has plenty of funny moments, this book is not pure fluff by any means. It's thoughtful and interesting, and plays with some stereotypes. I adored both MCs and identified with them a lot, and it all adds up to a really great read. And that cover! Love a purple cover lol. Highly recommended.

Fanstastic listen

Joanna & Sally give us a highly entertaining story in Best Supporting Actor. It’s got some drama (and not just the one they are acting in), some hurt/comfort, some laughs, and plenty of love. And the audiobook is skillfully done by Simon Goldhill.

Jay and Tag come from opposite sides of the track. Tag comes from a working-class family, and he works hard to pay the bills while chasing his dream of acting. At the same time, Jay comes from a family of money and fame.

It’s a classic situation of two men caught up in their own feelings and baggage and being unable to see the other person for who they actually are. Tag especially struggles to see past his prejudices and desire to achieve his dreams.

But damn they are fire and completely sweet once they put the work in and truly let down their guards.

Yet another masterpiece of creative types

This series by Chambers and Malcolm is one of my favourites. The first book "Total creative control" is my favourite of all time with this one coming a close second. Tag is my cinnamon bun boy that I love and will defend with my last breath. Jay is a more complicated individual and at first seems haughty and aristocratic. But as we get to know him better we realise the level of damage done to his mental health when he was young and the only cure would be our sunshine boy Tag! The plot is engaging and even if you sort of know what will happen it still takes you by surprise. The writing : impeccable, narration: stunning, do I want another book in this series from these two authors: 1000%!!!
