About this listen
Christmas can be deadly…
After a long year of crime-fighting, DCI Ryan and his team are looking forward to a peaceful Christmas filled with festive treats – including the occasional turkey stottie, or three. To celebrate a job well done, the entire team are treated to a party at beautiful Belsay Hall, a spectacular country estate on the outskirts of the city. But, when their dinner is interrupted by the untimely arrival of a dead body, they’re reminded that crime never sleeps – and nor do the secrets within the walls of Belsay.
It's time to find out who’s been naughty or nice…
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Brilliant as ever
Intriguing from the beginning to the end. I am addicted to the narrator, clear and pleasant to listen to even with Phillip, Ana and the others accent. I hope LJ Ross doesn’t keep us waiting for too long to know about Ana, Ryan’s wife.

Outstanding!
One of my favourite series! My only complaint is tgat I can't put it down and finish it within a couple of days. This one was particularly short.
A gripping story from beginning to end. Loveable characters, brought to like by superb narration. Ended on a fantastic cliff hanger. Kept me guessing throughout. Always full of emotions. Absolutely loved it.

Wonderful story, it draws you in as if it's real life. Unputdownable.
Characterisation is awesomely narrated in a way that makes you totally invested in each one of the main characters. Brilliantly written, as always by Lj Ross. I can't wait for the next book in the series, but I suppose I must. What a staggering cliffhanger to end with!

The shock at the end
Loved the story as usual. Hated the end when Anna gets arrested. The storyline was brilliant as usual and the fact Henry was the actual successor to the title. Again the banter between the characters had me constantly chuckling. Not sure I want to hear the next book when it comes out because I think I know what it will be about.

Noooooooooooo!!
She's done it again leaving us all hanging on with baited breath.
Another throughly enjoyable book, thankly not as heavy as the previous two parter but L J Ross has done it again leaving us waiting for book 24 to find out what happens next.
Yes it's shorter than some of the previous titles but no less fun and engaging installed with the regular bit of fun.

As brilliant as ever
Ryan is back, as are all the rest of the crew! A concise, beautifully written mystery/murder with history and ecology thrown in. Good detective work with lots of hints and clues thrown in and a super cliff hanger to finish!!!! Go and spend a day in the garden and or take it on holiday! Brilliant!!

Another DC Ryan story
I get excited every time a new Ryan book is released. However, it’s becoming formulaic. The perpetrator is too easy to identify. The chit chat between Ryan and his sidekick has become predictable and unfunny. Philip’s has become the office idiot- there needs to be more intelligent banter between the characters , more of that Jordie humour . It did however end on a hopeful note / cliffhanger. Would I listen to the next novel ……. Of course .
