Summary
The number one best seller: King at the peak of his powers - at once a first-rate suspense novel, a legal thriller, a haunted house story and a love story.
When Mike Noonan's wife dies unexpectedly, the best-selling author suffers from writer's block. Until he is drawn to his summer home, the beautiful lakeside retreat called Sara Laughs.
Here Mike finds the once familiar town in the tyrannical grip of millionaire Max Devore. Devore is hell-bent on getting custody of his deceased son's daughter and is twisting the fabric of the community to this purpose.
Three year old Kyra and her young mother turn to Mike for help. And Mike finds them increasingly irresistible.
But there are other more sinister forces at Sara Laughs - and Kyra can feel them too....

Loved it!
I really enjoyed this audio book, a bonus that it was read by Stephen King himself, he really brought the characters to life.
As soon as i finished it, I downloaded another Stephen King novel, and thats fab too.

Bag of bones
A really super story. As with all of King’s books, it takes time to get into the story. And I always struggle with the first couple of hours as he sets the scene etc... but it’s well worth the wait to get into the story! And it’s also necessary for the sale of the story. Stick with it! You’ll love it.

King at his best (the fiction that is)
Slow to start but once it does it grabs you with two hands and doesn’t let go until you finish.! Pure brilliance and probably my favourite king book yet!
One of the reason I chose this book was the fact that King was reading his own work. I loved the idea of this however the reality was not so great. I found that it was monotone and without emotion and I found my mind wandering during the early parts of the book as Stephen King as a narrator was simply not captivating. Good job that the story itself was! The addition of strategically placed added to the overall experience and once the story got going even the narration wasn’t enough to spoil it!
Brilliant author, fantastic fiction but please leave the narration to the professional actors....

A lenghtly saga
Sometime I feel that Stephen King gets paid by the page! This book has a slow start, but eventually gets going into a reasonably absorbing tale. The listener who stays the course will enjoy the final development of the storyline as the pace picks up. I've recently finished (reading) Lisey's Story, to which similar criticism applies. If you can get past the first couple of hundred pages of seemingly waffle, you get to a story. This book is better than Lisey's Story!

Not bad
I found that Stephen King had a pretty boring and monotonous voice. I might be doing him a disservice if that was the way it was intended to be. The story was good but it didn’t draw me in.

Great Bag. Great Bones.
King delivers again with a great story beautifully told. This one is filled with writerly matters wrapped around a very compelling creepy story. Twisting between the real and unreal, lovely characters. King narrates super good. He drives the story on at a cracking pace letting the words do most of the work and only embellishing when it really adds to the atmosphere. I also really liked the occasional music underscoring the mood and punctuating particular moments. I think this was a cool production decision to add to the audio book value. And at the end there is a lovely short interview with King which any reader (or aspiring) writer would enjoy. Highly recommend. Please live forever Stephen and never stop writing.

Mysterious and compelling
I was absorbed by Bag of Bones and it has instantly went into my top 10 list of Steven King stories. I love when King narrates and he does this one so well it really helps to suck you in. The music scattered throughout doesn't pull you out like it sometimes can, but only helps to immerse you further, and the interview at the end is great listening too. Highly recommended Bag of Bones, well worth the credit!
