Summary

This audiobook is fascinatingly read by the author, Chris Hadfield.

Back on the earth after three spaceflights, Chris Hadfield's captivating memoir
An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth reveals extraordinary stories from his life as an astronaut, and shows how to make the impossible a reality.

Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4,000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success – and survival – is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst – and enjoy every moment of it.

In An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, Col. Hadfield takes listeners deep into his years of training and space exploration to show how to make the impossible possible. Through eye-opening, entertaining stories filled with the adrenaline of launch, the mesmerizing wonder of spacewalks and the measured, calm responses mandated by crises, he explains how conventional wisdom can get in the way of achievement – and happiness. His own extraordinary education in space has taught him some counterintuitive lessons: don't visualize success, do care what others think, and always sweat the small stuff.

You might never be able to build a robot, pilot a spacecraft, make a music video or perform basic surgery in zero gravity like Col. Hadfield. But his vivid and refreshing insights will teach you how to think like an astronaut, and will change, completely, the way you view life on Earth – especially your own.

fantastic

I love this book. it's not just an autobiography, it's thought provoking in many ways and the core ideas can resonate in most people's life. Being prepared for the worst, always training, always being challenged, the competitiveness of overachievers thrown at the bottom of the stairs. Chris' voice is also very easy listen to listen to, relaxing but not boring. perfect.

This is Our Universe but not as we see it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely suggest all my friends read this book. Chris Hadfield teaches us to be observant and to view things around us from a wider angle, a different perspective perhaps. The World we live in is a beautiful place and we must all strive to keep it that way, equally we must treasure the time that we have on earth. This Astronaut takes us into the secret life of a modern day Test Pilot and shows us that we can achieve wonderful things even though we may live in different countries of the world and in some cases with people who's countries were cold war enemies.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chris Hadfield a Canadian who found himself in America and then found himself looking down on the earth from outer space.

Which character – as performed by Chris Hadfield – was your favourite?

Chris Hadfield was the writer and told his own story of his journey to become a leading Astronaut. How it is possible for anyone to follow the dream and reach the stars.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes the descriptions he speaks of when he talks about the incredible views from space. Please note that he has since published a collection of truly amazing pictures of the earth and parts of the world. It makes you feel as though you are seeing those views with your own eyes.

Any additional comments?

If you are thinking of a visit to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida USA then please read this book or better still listen to the Audio Book because it will give you a much better insight of the exhibits on show. Thank you Chris. My wife and I are visiting Florida late February 2015.
