Summary

The end of the world was just the beginning.

Trouble is coming for Earth and for the people of Crownhill. The wolfmen were only the start. Trolls and ogres now roam these unfamiliar lands. And worst of all, other humans wait and plot against us. With no one else to lead them, the burden of protecting these people falls to me.

But I am not alone. Bridget and Sakura loyally stand by my side. And now, at last, I am finally reunited with Myrina, my oldest friend. She hails from the world of the Amazonians, and her people have lived with the System for countless years. They know the answers to questions we haven't even thought to ask.

With her help, we just might be able to survive the apocalypse. But she's got problems of her own. Her clan is at war and cannot give me their support. They lack the magic equipment to defeat their rebellious foes. Perhaps a newly minted Artificer might be of use to them.

Nothing is certain, and conflict runs deeper than I ever realized in this world after the Apocalypse.

excellent sequel

I loved this book and how it balances world building and progression. the characters become more fleshed out for the most part and we see more of how the world functions.

there are some minor frustrations, notably how Carter seems to struggle to make connections and recognise actual threats. however In aweird way this makes sense as he is a high Int character with Low normal perception... so he's too smart for his own good. also he doesn't easily spot simple solutions and sometimes it felt like problems were there to impede the plot - i.e how he insists on just being friends with myrina when he and everyone Knows he could just drain her levels to get her to earth...

also the insistence at the end of not just ENDING the actual threat (as they would have been a real issue) shows he is still arrogant and it is lucky he has an ally who RESOLVES that issue feels funny but a bit too convenient. a minor quibble given how well done the rest of the book is.

also a whole extra star for the ATLA shout out with a certain merchant!

Character development

I found it entertaining to see more of the Amazon side of things and how the characters developed from being seen as a independant strong tribe to having rely on others for strength. I also enjoy seeing how the leads abilities nearly corrupt him with him needing to control it. overall a good listen

Where did all the statpoints he added to intelligence go?

I really liked the first book and the start of the second(this one).
But when they meet the Main antagonist Ceasar his super high intelligence is as if it hit the minus.
Increadibly stupid storytelling on the authors side to the point i decided to even skip close to an entire chapter due to the stupidity of the Carter.
And at the end he acts as if this was the hardest antagonist he had fought against.
