About this listen
Arden was left in the village by a dying mage, who never returned. With no way out of the village on his own, he had always held onto the hope that one day his magic would awaken and give him access to his spheres.
But he’s about to turn eighteen and it’s never come. Instead, he’s settled into his lot as a sarcastic and quick-witted innkeeper.
That all changes one night when his old flame, who escaped the village to become a mage’s anchor, returns.
Ard’s life is about to go through some dramatic changes, and he’s not ready for them.
Too bad, with magic comes responsibility and Ard needs to adapt quickly because he’s making more enemies than friends with his glib tongue. Thankfully, he’s got some help along the way.
Because he’ll need it. As the most powerful mage in the nation, he’s about to be thrown headfirst into the elite of the kingdom and a few jokes won’t stop a sword.

Great hummer and character development
For me, it is another great hit straight off the start line from Bruce Sentar each character is easy to follow with their development and personality traits. The world lore build is built up over time not just through in your face.

Not my usual but it's good
Hyper focusing on LITRPG and knowing the author indulges on this genre occasionally, having enjoyed another series, I started listening to this book. Although not LITRPG it follows the tropes without the stats. it's a good read/listen, has some spiciness (not FTB) and a world in mystery and an realistic link to its progressive magic system.
My only complaint was that I didn't really feel like the power levels, magical power limiting factors and the 'feeling' of use were conveyed in a way that I could truly understand, comprehend and imagine.
still good book because I finished it and that means it entertained me enough to keep my attention. That being the cruel mistress of my form of nuerodiversity is impressive.

Really good book
The male voice actor nailed the witty humour throughout the story. The overall story was very enjoyable and I can’t wait to listen to the next book

Beginning of another hit
Great new story with its own unique magic logic. I'm glad it's not another reincarnation, other worlder or game logic book. There are too many of those at the moment. I love it and looking forward to new releases

I ALMOST hated this book
As my title said, i almost Didn’t like this book. Im usually a fan of bruce’s stories, but this one felt off. In fact, the story and its characters annoyed me for the first few hours in.
Then all of a sudden, things click and go back into place. My advice is, don’t give up on this title.
If you want more detailed explanation, il give one below with slight spoilers. Please stop reading now if you don’t want spoilers.
-SPOILER ALERT-
So mages are kinda rare, anchors are still rare but not as rare.
Mages give anchors magic threw kisses, but it can be a kiss on the hand. Not just lips.
The main hero was heart broken when his child hood love, left him without a word. She did have her reasons, but explained it poorly.
Basically, she is still in love with the main character, the prince is pretty much emotionally blackmailing her to be his anchor, but she has done nothing more then kiss the back if his hand.
I was annoyed, because she kept faffing about in telling him, uppseting him and things kept getting annoying.
EVENTUALLY she tells him properly, (about 3 hours in) and things click.
