About this listen
Anne Rice and J. K. Rowling’s worlds collide in this exhilarating and pause-resisting debut contemporary fantasy novel. Enter the Phoenix Chronicles universe today and prepare yourself for an action packed fantasy thriller with earthshaking mystery and apocalyptic dangers. Packed with mystical wonders, vampires, werewolves, wizards, demons, and gods, this story will captivate you and leave you wanting more.
Follow the story of young, apprehensive student, Kristian Wallace as he finds himself thrust back into a world he had previously rejected. After leaving behind the mystery, magic, and mysticism of the “Order of Light”, Kristian is once again on a dangerous mission against supernatural forces. Returning to confront the challenges bestowed upon those who are chosen to blend with a magical entity, known as a Phoenix; Kristian uses the special powers endowed to him, as he soon comprehends the reality that he can no longer hide from his destiny.
When the mission takes a much darker path, with deadly consequences, a far more sinister plot is revealed. Kristian troubled by echoes of his past, must use all his abilities to stay alive and to prevent an apocalyptic future that threatens to destroy everything he holds dear.
Alone in the Light is an introduction into the fantastical and intricate universe of the Phoenix Chronicles. This standalone novel sets out the beginnings of a six-part saga, one filled with magic, peril, and endless intrigue.

When will book 2 ready!
although I found the Irish accent a little difficult to allow me to concentrate on it and the story line at first, I stuck with it and really began to get into the characters and the plot line. I have now been left hanging - when will book 2 be ready!

Eagerly awaiting book 2.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
At first I wasn’t sure as it seemed to be very slow going but I am so glad I stuck with it as it was very good.
Kristian was once a student of the Order of Light but he left a few years ago. When one of his friends is killed on a mission he is asked to come back to the OAL and he is thrown onto a dark path where he discovers a sinister plan is being enacted by supernaturals.

Excellent Story, Great Narration
I really enjoyed the audiobook Alone in the Night, the first book in The Phoenix Chronicles series.
The book is a gripping fantasy thriller with a struggle between the Light and Dark and contains wizards, vampires, werewolves, demons, gods, and magical artefacts. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
Andrew McDermott did a great job with the narration. Apart from loving his Irish accent, his measured pace made an intricate storyline easily understandable and the variety of voices he produced for different characters made them clearly identifiable.

Fans of Harry Potter will lap this up
Alone in the Light is the first instalment of The Phoenix Chronicles series and was my first introduction to the author. From the offset, the action and pace is relentless and I found myself totally immersed in the premise of the story.
The strength of the book lies in the exceptional world building that the author has created which effortlessly brings the characters and plot to life. We have twelve supernatural entities (phoenixes) who protect and defend the universe through their human hosts. With the help of these human hosts, The Order Of Light, (comprising of wizards and scholars) work together with the Council of Tivernal (non human species; vampires, lycanthropes, Vinji, Sorcerers etc) in accordance with the Treaty Of Scriptures. To ensure both sides adhere to the terms of the Treaty, we have the Arbitrators (demigods)
This by no means is a light easy read. The plot and characters are complex and it’s obvious that the author has gone to a lot of trouble to weave an intricate world full of fantastical creatures, mysticism and dark magic. As a result I did struggle initially to remember the sheer number of characters and information overload at the beginning of the book. I usually find it beneficial to have the accompanying ebook version to keep track.
As I grew accustomed to the hierarchy of the Order, I found my sympathising with several of the characters. Kristian’s desire for a normal life, Oliver’s tragic murder, the weight and responsibility on Jonathan’s shoulders as the leader of the Order etc. Isabel the vampire, in particular, intrigued me.
Overall, this was a compelling page turning stand alone novel of a promising six part saga which I for one am looking forward to further exploring.
I received an advance free audible copy of Alone in the Light which was narrated by Andrew McDermott. I was impressed by his clear and concise narration which effortlessly brought the characters and plot to life. I recommend this book for fans of dark urban fantasy, prophecies, vampires, wizards, phoenixes, intrigue, suspense and peril. Harry Potter fans in particular, will lap this up.

Interesting
Alone in the Light is a story involving the paranormal. It is told entirely in third person and from multiple points of views. The story is interesting but there are passages that are quite slow. The narrator did a good job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
