About this listen
The complete magisterial history of the greatest and most terrible event in history, from one of the finest historians of the Second World War. This shows the impact of war upon hundreds of millions of people around the world - soldiers, sailors and airmen; housewives, farm workers and children.
Reflecting Max Hastings' 35 years of research on World War II, All Hell Let Loose describes the course of events but focuses chiefly upon human experience. There are vivid descriptions of the tragedies and triumphs of a host of ordinary people, in uniform and out of it, in an 'everyman's story'.
This is now the entire audiobook, not in two parts.

You think you know the WWII history!
Fills in the lesser known facts. Provides a 360° view covering the non Anglo-Saxon viewpoint.

Thoroughly enjoyable
I am an avid fan of pretty much all military history and spend a lot of time listening to books in the car. I have found this to be very enjoyable, although thorough it moves at a good pace and does not get bogged down in too much unnecessary detail. The human stories that are heard throughout add to the historical big picture and keep the interest levels high. I would recomment this to anyone who wants to learn more about WW2.

Great book!
As with all of Hasting's books, this is a great read, packed with facts and figures, but with enough of a dramatic narrative to deliver the emotion of the events being discussed.

Descriptive and saddening
A descriptive catalogue of the horrors of war leaving me drained and appalled at 'man's inhumanity to man'.
It just goes on and one, the crimes committed against non combatants, women, elderly and children with the knowledge that such things are happening today really challenges any hope one has for the future of our species.
If there are 'space' aliens watching us, is it any wonder they have not made contact.
A very long listen expertly read. I learned a lot, the 20th century was a hell of a time, it continues on into the 21st, will the killing never end?

Informative
Many believe they know the main events of the Second World War, invasions, Dunkirk, Pearl Harbour, Hiroshima and final Allied victory. This book explains the background and details of the War and the consequences that followed The narrator delivers just the right tone throughout and at the end you come away with a more complete view of the events of 1939 -1945. Highly recommended to those who are interested in this chapter of history.

Brilliant
Wasn't sure I would get around to finishing it but it was so well written and so well narrated that I listened at every opportunity, now I'm disappointed I've finished it! It was fascinating and taught me more than I believed I knew about such a terrible time in the world's history. Thoroughly recommended!
