Summary

A lonely young heiress becomes the poorest wealthy woman in Victorian England when her father dies without telling anyone where he hid his fortune. Can Tressa and the no-nonsense estate manager find the fortune before the greedy relatives get to it first?

Tressa Harlowe's father did not trust banks, but neither did he trust his greedy extended family. He kept his vast fortune hidden somewhere on his estate in the south of England and died suddenly, without telling anyone where he had concealed it. Tressa and her ailing mother are left with a mansion and an immense vineyard and no money to run it. It doesn't take long for a bevy of opportunists to flock to the estate under the guise of offering condolences. Tressa knows what they're really up to. She'll have to work with the rough and rusticated vineyard manager to keep the laborers content without pay and discover the key to finding her father's fortune before someone else finds it first. Award-winning author Joanna Davidson Politano welcomes readers to Trevelyan Castle, home of the poorest heiress in Victorian England, for a treasure hunt they'll not soon forget.

Twists and turns

I enjoyed this book very much. The narrator was alright, but could have been better. the twists and turns of events was good and revealed the greediness of the hearts of men. Based in the 1800's the ways and manners of society is quaint. the main character is fiesty and intelligent giving credit to women in that period. I recommend this book.

Good mystery for you to solve. Not preachy.

Don't be put off by the reviews about religious references as they fit and are not preachy. This is an engaging mystery with twists and turns to keep your interest. The trust in God is organic rather than forced with the intention of sermonising the reader. Good souls trying to help in an imperfect world with obstacles and plotting to stop them. A mystery for you to solve, who's the good guy and who's the bad guy?

An unusual story

The style of the story is in the format of a diary, and I've not come accross this format in a love story before.
I enjoyed listening and emagining the Somerset /Dorset country side in which it is based. A good narrative which helped me to identify with the main characters.

Fantastic read

Loved the use of the vine metaphor, Tressa’s enduring love for the father was amazing despite the challenge she remained focused on his goodness💕💕

bland det bästa jag hört!

I can not use enough strong words to tell how much I love this book. It is thrilling and so clever you can not guess the ending. It is a puzzel all the time. It is all the way nice but not to sweet. It has salt and romance and it tells you about God's restoring ability in a most fantastic way. I also love the voice of the person who reads this book. I has a warm quiet glow that makes the listening a warm joy in the soul. I love it.

A Religious Romance

I think if potential readers had been advised of this very obvious Christian tale - an ailing vineyard and an experienced vintner - there would not have been so many poor reviews.

As it is, it’s a very gentle, rambling tale. It’s very worthy and would appeal to Christian Cozy Mystery readers. I’m a Christian and enjoy both historical romance and cozy mysteries, yet this particular tale did not appeal to me. I did enjoy how the relevant characters relationship with God was portrayed (very realistic), but I must confess that I didn’t find ANY character particularly endearing.

The biggest stumbling block for me was, a combination of beginning each chapter with horticultural notes (I know that it had a deeper meaning, but to me it’s the same as those cozy mystery’s that start each chapter with a cake recipe - ugh!) and how wordy it was! Just a bit too descriptive for me. It was read well, but I had to speed up the narration.

There’s more vintner related prose than spiritual prose. So those who bemoaned the spiritual inclusion are more likely to be European than from elsewhere in the world (just my opinion), as I wouldn’t think that any other region of the world would be so offended by the inclusion of God in people’s everyday lives.

A good story

I enjoyed the story but found it a bit long-winded at times. I was not a fan of the narration, the voice of all the men in the story sounded the same and a bit sinister.
