About this listen

Nuneaton, 1911. When Holly Farthing's overbearing grandfather tries to force her to marry a dowdy widower twice her age she finally says no. When he refuses to support her any longer, Holly flees to London, bringing her best friend and maid, Ivy, with her.

In the big smoke, Holly searches for the father she's never met and begins nurse training in the local hospital, where she meets the dashing Doctor Parkin. Kind and compassionate, he is everything that Holly has ever dreamt of.

When Doctor Parkin proposes, Holly finally feels like she'll have the family she so longs for. But when she discovers some shocking news that means they can never be together, Holly's life is suddenly in turmoil. Supporting the war effort, she heads to France and throws herself into volunteering on the front line. Are the rumours about Doctor Parkin really true? And can Holly ever find the happiness she so truly deserves?

A precious gift

Another lovely book by Rosie Goodwin narratored by Charlie Sanderson in the series Days of the week. Although you can predict the out come of what's going to happen these books are still enjoyable to listen to. Highly recommended

Wonderful story, but ruined by the narration

This is a wonderful story, but I would recommend reading it, rather than listening. The narrator’s accents are all wrong - with the main character having an overly exaggerated and out of context ‘posh’ hot-potato-in-the-mouth accent, and everyone else, including those who are supposed to be Londoners, having weird “Birmingham-ish” accents. I was enjoying the story so much that I managed to listen to the end despite the narration, but it took a lot of mental gymnastics and determination to do so.

Wonderful!

Another wonderful tale on this fabulous series. Every book has been as good as the last. I’m going to miss all these characters. So great to have such a clean, uplifting series to read. Heartaches of life along their ways but lovely happy endings as well. Thank you Rosie Goodwin!

A Precious Gift

Well written as usual by Rosie Goodwin. But don’t read this book is you feel low. The second part (book) was so horrid going into too much detail of the First World War. I nearly gave up on the book, but as usual I was dying to know how it all turned out.
Perhaps it’s because I am in my eighties, and war and is was very real to me
