I have really enjoyed this book, a lovely story of 3 girls who become friends and discover all the ups and downs in their lives . I am sure other listeners will enjoy it too!

Very good listen
Definitely will recommend this book enjoyed it from beginning to end. It gave a brilliant account of the lives of the people back then and the struggles and heartache they felt, and the narrator was excellent.

Surpprisingly enjoyable
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but having enjoyed Rosie Goodwin's writing previously thought I would have a stab at this one on special offer.
It was a delightful tale of the war torn England and specifically the lives of three very different girls who bonded during that time of hardship.
I found some of their reactions to events implausible, but overall it was a lovely read, bringing sadness and joy in equal measure. (Tears to the eyes too in parts!)
The narrator was mainly good - but she sometimes used wrong phrasing and I had to stop and think what she actually meant - but that wasn't too much of a hardship, whizzed back 30 secs and re-listened.

Excellent Story
I have only just started reading Rosie Goodwin's books so have not read them all. However I would say that this book is one of the best I have read so far. The only thing that spoils the story is that, in the last few pages, the author ruins the ending by stamping it with her personal opinions about what is right or wrong with certain groups of people - this completely spoilt it for me.

Sickly sweet......a guilty secret
Syrupy sweet tale set in Coventry during World War Two, and the intertwined lives of three young girls woven together through their initial shop assistant roles at the Owen and Owen department store.
Often overly gooey and very predictable filled with many silly cliches from a bygone era.....
It is at this point I would usually think yuk, and look for a book with more bite. However this book has been a guilty secret and I have really enjoyed listening to it.
I think the thing that kept me hooked was that I do like a book from this era,. There is a strong storyline and all the characters are rather like able
Right now that that’s completed, I am off to read War and peace. 🤪
