Summary

it was ok
I am not convinced the writer really knows much about France or The Resistance. Do all French people really live in Pahree and drink red wine and Champagne? Felt the accents were a bit suspect. Expected somebody to ''say ziss only wurnse' .

Alan Furst is one of a rare group of writers whos novels are awaited like a gift
beautiful narration of a novel which brings this Parisian era to life

Very interesting - a novel which I thoroughly enjoyed and am sure there are many similar stories which really happened during
the Second World War. I trust we never have to experience another dreadful world war.

Dreadful !
What would have made A Hero of France better?
This book has absolutely no story. I enjoy books on the French Resistance but even I was willing myself not to resist giving this load of nonsense up. There is absolutely no plot whatsoever from start to finish. After 6 hours I could take no more, even with just an hour to go. It is a dreadful audible read. Avoid.
What was most disappointing about Alan Furst’s story?
Their was no plot whatsoever. Nothing happened.
Did Peter Noble do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?
Reader was fine. Far too many characters not actually doing anything.
What character would you cut from A Hero of France?
My mind was a haze with a soup of forgettable " characters ".

A tedious story
There a many good real life works written about the French resistance that it is a wonder that such a tedious novel should have reached the bookshelves. Furst has a tendency to start writing a potentially interesting piece of action only to end it abruptly and begin writing about something else. His protagonists invariably end up in a barn or train wagon where they fall asleep. His readers might wish to follow suit.
Peter Noble’s narration is monotone and slow in style.
