Summary

February 1943. As the balance of the war slowly shifts in Britain's favour, Lieutenant-Commander Steven Marshall brings his battle-scarred submarine into home port. Captain and crew are exhausted after 14 months' continuous service, but for most there can be no thought of leave.

If the enemy collapse in North Africa is to be exploited, every experienced man will be needed. Marshall must return to the Mediterranean, but this time to a very different kind of war. For his new command is secret and extremely hazardous - a captured German U-boat....

A good story with its usual mixture of villains

A typical WW2 story from the pen of Douglas Reeman. Good seafaring stuff. As usual there is a hint of romance amongst the action. The villains are both British and German. The narration is good but when there are action scenes described they are delivered with a deep growling voice.

Brilliant

Another classic from Reeman. Another reminder of those days when bravery was understated and commonplace.

Great Book.

David Rintoul is a master of the genre and Douglas Reeman can't be bettered. From the Artic Convoys to The Med his story's cover everything from Cruisers to Submarine to Tug Boats. Great escapism and story telling.

Good Story, shame about the “dust cover”

It’s a good story, typical Douglas Reeman. It’s just a shame the “dust cover” shows a 20th century nuclear submarine and not a Second World War U boat!

Loved it

An author writes a good story , but a good narrator brings it to life
This had both ! Great atmospheric story and brilliantly read with passion and feeling

My fifth or sixth Douglas Reeman

Very good. One of the better ones I’ve listened to. Apparently there was a German U-Boat captured and used against the Nazis which perhaps added value to this book.
