About this listen

Die Hard meets Talk Radio in this heart-pounding, relentlessly fast-paced thriller from the New York Times best-selling author of The Fourth Monkey - master of suspense, J.D. Barker.

“I’m going to offer you a choice.”

Controversial satellite radio talk show host, Jordan Briggs, has clawed her way to the top of the broadcast world. She doesn’t hold back, doesn’t spare feelings, and has no trouble sharing what’s on her mind. Her rigorous pursuit of success has come at a price, though. Her marriage is in ruins, she hasn’t spoken to her mother in years, and she’s distanced herself from all those close to her. If not for her young daughter, Charlotte, her personal life would be in complete shambles.

When a subdued man calls into the show and asks to play a game, she sees it as nothing more than a way to kick-start the morning, breathe life into the beginnings of drive-time for her listeners. Against her producer’s advice, she agrees, and unwittingly opens a door to the past.

Live on the air with an audience of millions, what starts out as a game quickly turns deadly - events long thought buried resurface and Jordan Briggs is forced to reconcile with one simple fact - all decisions have consequences.

Started well

Although the initial premise made sense, as the story continued it became so unbelievable that I think it lost its way. That said, I was gripped enough to keep listening just to find out what happened in the end.
I have to say though, that I found the male narrator’s staccato delivery very annoying, forcing me to speed up his chapters to almost double speed.
Although I would certainly listen to other stories by this author, I would definitely avoid those with the same male narrator. Thank you

Ilogical and farfetched

I felt the book was farfetched and actually quite ridiculous. How did a man manage to place bombs on every floor and take over a radio station. Even though it's fiction, it still has to be believable.

J D Barker is a Genius

A gift of an author that just keeps on giving. I would have bought it simply for the authors notes at the end. He is a man i dont know who displays great humility. Thats why i buy all his books. Must read or Audible experience 🔥

Excellent story, let down by the narration.

I've really enjoyed the books I've read by JD Barker, Great story lines, well written. This lives up to expectation.
The female narrator does a superb job with this, convincing as a radio host and pleasant to listen to.
However the male narrator...
... keeps pausing...
... it isn't just one character... it's all... characters... at random...intervals. And, by God it's irritating.

Another winner

At times though provoking, and always entertaining. The story is narrated by 2 people which has been the case with all the previous books I have listened to from this author. This gives the narrative a better feel to the characters. The story flows smoothly from the start and keeps the listener guessing throughout. All the characters are quickly well developed, especially Charlotte who is fantastic and witty, bringing a sarcastic sense of humour to complement the darkness of characters that lead the plot.

Popcorn Entertainment

Great Credit to the Voice Actors for creating as good a performance as I've heard after hundreds of Audible books. Only quibble is the male character did over pause on commas but we can't have it all.

Mostly though credit to the author who I've only just discovered and who's 3rd book I'm on in one format or another. Kept you engaged and guessing right up to the end. Highly recommended and I'll look out for more.

On a side note the Authors note contains a moving reminder of Covid times (he finished writing this in March 2020 at the height of the Pandemic). It'd be nice to reach back in that Authors note and tell him he'd come out the other end ok. Maybe there is a book in that!
