Summary

A cosy mystery set in the picturesque city of York. Perfect for fans of Betty Rowlands, LJ Ross and Faith Martin.

Librarian Kitt Hartley thought her life had gone back to normal after the shocking events of Murder by the Minster. Then her friend Evie Bowes breaks some bad news: DS Charlotte Banks has been suspended from duty, on suspicion of assaulting a suspect in a string of antique bookshop robberies.

Evie wants justice for Charlotte, who she is sure was not the attacker, and how could any self-respecting librarian turn down the chance to find missing rare books? The two friends team up once again to investigate the rarefied world of York's bookshops and antiques dealers and find out just who has framed their friend.

But Kitt and Evie will soon learn that there are some books people will kill for - will this story have a happy ending?

Keystone Cops

The first book had promise, but unless I’m missing a lot this book had no real plot. Laboured. I listened because I’d paid and I didn’t have to concentrate very hard.

An enjoyable romp chasing a murderer around York

Brilliant characters. Well written setting. And twists enough for a Gordian knot.
I bought this on an offer and it’s the 2nd of a series (I’ll need to buy the 1st). I really enjoyed the whole book.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Really fab book

I’d read a number of reviews before starting this book and I want to say that I think an earlier one star reviewer is outrageously prejudiced. I am offended (as het Christian) that a well written and non graphic LGBTQ relationship between consenting adults should have garnered this kind of response. Frankly if you’re going to take that attitude why read murder mysteries?! Anyway this book is really good; bits of it are a touch unlikely but like all good cozy mysteries the author handles them with skill and actually they’re part of the charm. The thing that lifts this novel above others is how well written the characters are, how likeable they are and their relationships are very believeable.

Disappointing story

Found this a tedious book and I couldn’t empathise with the characters. I’ll not be reading any further books in this series.

Boring

Yorkshire born and bred, with family tombs in the Minster, I was deeply disappointed by this book. Boring, otiose, repetitious assumes a knowledge of the previous book which, happily, I do not have. I do not like to return books but I would like to in this case.

Moderate story spoilt by sexual reference and bad accents.

It might have been a fair book but why must unnecessary sex be brought in which adds nothing to the story but means i cannot recommend this book to anyone. ☹️ A good author can hold an audience without such unnecessary input. Work harder on the storyline and avoid spoiling the book.

The book is set in Yorkshire (I live near Kilburn) so why put in obvious mistakes and contrived accents and mispronunciations. Folk round here do not talk like that so it’s obvious and grating.

The first book was a weak storyline but a fair read, this is an improved storyline spoilt. Mot sure if i will bother with any more.
