Summary

What if you could go back in time and change the course of history? What if the watershed moment you could change was the JFK assassination? 11.22.63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless....

King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake's life - a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

With extraordinary imaginative power, King weaves the social, political and popular culture of his baby-boom American generation into a devastating exercise in escalating suspense.

Critic reviews

“This new epic from Stephen King rates among the best he’s written – no small praise for the man who wrote Carrie, It, The Stand and Under the Dome.” ( Trucking News)

If you could, would you?

A recently divorced high school teacher is given the opportunity to travel back in time, on the promise that he'll help stop Lee Harvey Oswald assassinating JFK. We follow him on his travels and discover the ramifications of messing with time. We also meet a few of the characters of It which was a nice wee twist.

11.22.63 by Stephen King

This is a brilliant book, I was back there with George in 1963!
Stephen King has always been a good author but I think this is the best yet. I am going to buy the book now so I can read it too

The Master Storyteller

No one quite gets pace like Stephen King do they? Just the most immersive experience - plot, characterisation, dialogue, minutiae, suspense, joy, pathos, humour - it has the lot!

I used every opportunity to listen to this, really liked the narration too.

The story was great and I loved the way it evolved. Need to go and look for some other Stephen King books to listen to now

didn’t want it to end!

Having been a small child during this time it brought back long buried memories of a simpler time…Kings research must have been exhausting…attention to detail and great characters…just loved it.
The narrator deserves a reward!
