About this listen

100 fathoms below....

The depth at which sunlight no longer penetrates the ocean.

1983. The US nuclear submarine USS Roanoke embarks on a classified spy mission into Soviet waters. Their goal: to find evidence of a new, faster, and deadlier Soviet submarine that could tip the balance of the Cold War. But the Roanoke crew isn't alone. Something is on board with them. Something cunning and malevolent.

Trapped in enemy territory and hunted by Soviet submarines, tensions escalate and crew members turn on each other. When the lights go out and horror fills the corridors, it will take everything the crew has to survive the menace coming from outside and inside the submarine.

In the dark.

Combining Tom Clancy's eye for international intrigue with Stephen King's sense of the macabre, 100 Fathoms Below takes listeners into depths from which there is no escape.

90% great shame the ending let's it down

I wasn't sure what to expect from this in the beginning. It took a little bit to get through the first few chapters as the writer hung maybe a little too long for my personal tastes on explanation of us navy short names x/o being executive officer and C.O.B being chief of the boat and such. If you have watched anything like the hunt for red October then you're aware of these terms so I felt it frustrating.

The story plans out well and kept me interested on my long drives. but the ending was urgh.... predictable about two and a half hours from the end.

did this lessen my overall enjoyment of the book.. I don't think so.

worth a listen certainly.

It kept me interested

It was a good story, chilling in places, good characters, enjoyable while reading but a little forgettable.

Great story

Found this title an easy listen, the storyline is easy to follow and full of little twists that compliment the story and the experience.

decent enough

First half was creepy, very good, enclosed space and not knowing what was happening. But the second half was a bit the opposite, all action and pacing went. overall it was good just not amazing

30 days of night on a submarine.

Claustrophobic, tense fun and full of characters you genuinely don't want to die. Great narration. The characters don't tend to make stupid decisions, since their actions are driven by necessity due to the confines of the submarine. They're resourceful and as a science teacher, I loved the light bulb moment about a way to potentially harm their seemigly invincible adversaries. however once everyone knows what's actually going on I feel it loses the horror aspect and turns into more of a clunky action flick. Still a great deal of fun though.

Claustriphobic, terrifying

I think this book is absolutely amazing. The suspense kept me literally on the edge of my seat, another I once thought, way overused expression. Not this time. The fact the crew are all trapped together in a small space, plus the terror aboard with them and the enemy warfair, only add to the danger. There were times I could almost hear the kind of music you hear in films during creepy, tense scenes, not knowing who, or what, is round the corner. That was how this one felt to me at times. If you love claustrophobic, Psychological horror along with warfair, this one is for you. One of the best books I've ever read. Loved it! Very well narrated as well. Never heard Sean Compton before, but this book really suited his voice and reading style.

It's not great

It's such a good premise told in such an average and uninspired way. I was really struggling to finish this. it's short yes but bringing myself to get through the last couple of hours was a chore. it's not terrible, but it's not good either.

Enjoyable mild horror

I enjoyed this audiobook as a slowburn horror story, it wasn't too long and felt realistic in characters actions.

Worth your time IF you enjoy creature features.
