About this listen

From James Patterson, the world’s bestselling author, comes a new Audible Original thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind."

Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

As the cryptic notes keep coming and the body count grows, the detectives must untangle the mystery to protect more innocent lives from being lost—including their own.

Please note: This audio drama is for mature audiences only. It contains violence and strong language. Discretion is advised.

A mixed bag

I am unfamiliar with the author's work though I'm aware that he is a best seller and renowned. I don't know if that made me expect more of this but I found it banal and mundane. The ending was frankly completely ridiculous. The biggest issue, not least because it's an audiobook, was the acting. It fitted every stereotype and cliche of the New York cop and the two key players were wildly over the top. In particular the actress playing Grimes was woeful. it simply rolled out every trope that's ever been used. I can't say I would recommend it to anybody.

Perfect narration

I loved the narration! The story was going really well until the last hour and a half. Then it felt rushed and too complicated. Nonetheless this is a very enjoyable audiobook

Gripping story

It was gripping from the start to the end. Great cast and performances- came across really well and would recommend. But, can you guess the twist?

Twist

Very well performed including some cringe worthy moments. Great ending, could have built more suspense with the story line

Good

I thought this was a good original story and with cobie smoulders in the cast it can't go wrong.

I enjoyed the story but not the ending

I disliked the music intervals and background noise. I disliked the performance and would much prefer the story to be read as a book.

Fast food story

If you like your stories the way you like fast food then this is for you but not my cup of tea.

Lots of characters different voices etc but no depth or development
