Thomas J Powell has studied the Moon for decades and has developed a unique theory on the history of the Earth and Moon as a system. His interest began while earning a degree in Geoscience at Oregon State University. Early versions of his Close Approach Lunar Model have been presented at conferences of the Lunar and Planetary Institute and the American Geophysical Union, and he has contributed articles to Selenology, The Journal of the American Lunar Society. Tom’s first book, "Heat of the Moon: How a Close Encounter with Earth Changed Everything," introduces his hypothesis in layman’s terms. Tom is a lifetime traveler and has backpacked throughout Asia and Europe in the years before cellphones. He is Co-Owner of Powell Construction, a national award-winning design and build company, with his wife Heidi. Tom and Heidi live in Corvallis, Oregon, where they raised their two children.
