Rachel Donohue's debut novel The Temple House Vanishing is a literary mystery set in a Catholic boarding school. It was an Irish Times bestseller in 2020; nominated for an An Post Irish Book Award in the Best Newcomer Category and for the Kate O'Brien Award for best debut by an Irish female author.The Temple House Vanishing was published in the US by Algonquin books in 2021. It was named a CrimeReads debut of the month and one of the best thrillers of 2021 by the New York Times. Her second novel The Beauty of Impossible Things about a young woman with the gift of foretelling was published in May 2021 and was described by the Daily Mail as "poetic, atmospheric" and by the Irish Independent as brimming with 'atmospheric, eerie tension'. Her new novel 'The Glass House' is out February 2025. Revolving around two sisters coming of age in 1960s Ireland in the long shadow of an imperious father figure, the controversial philosopher Richard Acklehurst. It is a gothic tale of family secrets and vengeance Rachel's short stories have been published in the Irish Independent, Irish Times, The Cormorant, The Honest Ulsterman, and RTE. In 2017 she won the Hennessy "New Irish Writer of the Year" Award. She lives in Dublin, Ireland.
